Job Description
International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)
Description
ICAN is looking for a Digital Communications Coordinator to support our work to stigmatise, prohibit and eliminate nuclear weapons.
About us:
ICAN is a broad, inclusive global campaign, focused on mobilizing civil society around the world to support the specific objective of prohibiting and eliminating nuclear weapons. The ICAN international structure consists of partner organizations, an international steering group and an international staff team. The campaign moves fast, seizes opportunities and carries out activities across the globe. Our network of more than 700 partner organisations spans 111 countries, and together we intend to put an end to nuclear weapons forever. Our headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2017 we won the Nobel Peace Prize for our work to highlight the humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for helping to get a new Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) adopted at the UN. A few years later, despite a global pandemic, we mobilized the 50 governments needed to bring that treaty into force. In January we’re celebrating 5 years since the TPNW made nuclear weapons totally illegal. And we want you to be part of the team when that happens. Our team is enthusiastic, committed, and hungry for global change. We believe in the power of international law, institutions and norms to change the world for the better. We know that nuclear weapons are designed to be catastrophically destructive and cause indiscriminate harm, and we work with a broad range of stakeholders to end them because, if we don’t, an accident, miscalculation or act of suicidal madness is going to end us all. ICAN is committed to equal opportunity and opposed to exploitation, harassment, violence, and discrimination based on personal attributes such as gender, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.
About you:
You are eager to take on a challenge. You know that the digital marketplace is shifting- fast- and you have ideas and plans on how to maximise exposure and turn it into steadfast support. You’re a clear and strategic thinker, who can manage multiple projects with varying timelines without a problem. Not only that, you don’t get discouraged or frustrated when an urgent situation arises that calls for all hands on deck and the to-do list needs to be put aside. You also have skills with Liquid (or Ruby), or even Nationbuilder. You know the ins and outs of HTML and CSS, and you can parse what’s presented in Google Analytics to judge when, where, and how to develop content that is actionable. (It doesn’t hurt if you’re also skilled with tag manager or Cookiebot too!) You’ve worked on some great image/ graphic editing projects in the past and can show us some samples. You’ve also done a bit of video work- messing around with Capcut, Premiere pro or Da Vinci resolve, and you’ve been involved with livestreaming events a few times. You like to work in a team, and are a clear communicator about work plans and processes. You don’t need to know a lot about nuclear weapons or international law, but you do need to know that this team has got your back when it comes to facts and figures. You know that even successes have lessons, and not hitting every objective is not failure but a new opportunity. You don’t mind an occasional sports metaphor, especially when it's about ‘missing 100% of the shots you don’t take’.
