Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Head of Office and Projects, the Advocacy & Communication Specialist will develop, coordinate, and implement the organization’s overall communication, PR, and marketing strategy. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Foundation’s external and internal communication — including strategic planning, public relations, digital presence, newsletters, event promotion, photography, livestreaming, and outreach campaigns. You will also directly manage the graphic designer, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality visual materials consistent with the Foundation’s branding. This position combines strategic vision, operational execution, and creative storytelling, making it ideal for a dynamic professional ready to take ownership of an entire communication ecosystem.
Main Responsibilities
1. Strategic Communication & Planning
- Design and implement the Foundation’s comprehensive communication and marketing strategy aligned with its mission and annual objectives.
- Develop an annual and quarterly communication plan with clear goals, KPIs, target audiences, and messaging priorities.
- Create and manage a detailed editorial calendar covering social media, newsletters, campaigns, and events.
- Maintain brand consistency across all materials, ensuring adherence to the Foundation’s visual identity guidelines.
- Regularly evaluate communication performance and adjust strategy based on analytics and organizational needs.
- Prepare communication briefs and key messages for leadership and spokespersons.
2. Public Relations & Media Engagement
- Build, maintain, and expand relationships with journalists, editors, influencers, and media outlets in the sustainability and NGO sectors.
- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and position statements.
- Coordinate media interviews, press conferences, and public appearances.
- Develop press kits, media lists, and background materials for reporters.
- Track and analyze media coverage, preparing regular visibility reports.
- Manage the organization’s reputation and oversee crisis communication when necessary.
- Identify and leverage PR opportunities through environmental observances, campaigns, and partnerships.
3. Digital Marketing & Social Media Management
- Plan, create, and schedule posts across all social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, YouTube, TikTok).
- Oversee day-to-day management of accounts, ensuring consistent and high-quality engagement.
- Write and edit impactful captions, posts, and updates tailored to each platform.
- Design and implement digital marketing campaigns (paid and organic) to promote projects, webinars, and events.
- Monitor analytics and performance data to assess impact and optimize content strategy.
- Manage social media advertising budgets and produce ROI reports.
- Collaborate with the graphic designer to produce visually compelling visuals, banners, infographics, and short videos.
- Stay up to date with trends and new tools in social media, sustainability communication, and digital engagement.
4. Content Creation & Storytelling
- Produce compelling written and multimedia content that highlights the Foundation’s mission, projects, and success stories.
- Draft articles, blogs, and website updates on current initiatives, campaigns, and events.
- Write executive speeches, talking points, and donor communications.
- Coordinate storytelling with field staff and partners to collect human-interest stories and visual materials.
- Ensure all content is optimized for online visibility, SEO, and accessibility standards.
- Work closely with the graphic designer to translate narratives into strong visual materials (brochures, posters, infographics).
5. Newsletter & Email Communication
- Develop and manage the Foundation’s email marketing and newsletter strategy.
- Write, edit, and format monthly and campaign-based newsletters (Mailchimp or similar).
- Coordinate with project teams to collect relevant updates, visuals, and calls to action.
- Segment mailing lists and track subscriber engagement and conversion rates.
- Continuously optimize email design, content, and performance based on data and feedback.
- Ensure GDPR compliance and proper management of contact databases.
6. Website Management
- Oversee content updates, structure, and visual layout of the Foundation’s website.
- Write and edit new pages, project summaries, and event announcements.
- Manage SEO optimization and analytics tracking (Google Analytics, Search Console).
- Ensure the website remains accessible, up-to-date, and consistent with the organization’s branding.
- Coordinate with developers or IT support for technical improvements.
7. Event Communication, Photography & Livestreaming
- Manage communication and visibility for all events, webinars, and campaigns (pre-, during-, and post-event).
- Handle basic photography and videography, ensuring quality visual documentation.
- Oversee livestreaming setup and execution (OBS, Restream, Zoom Events, or similar platforms).
- Produce highlight reels, photo albums, and post-event communication materials.
- Archive and organize all audiovisual content for future use in reports and campaigns.
- Coordinate with the graphic designer for event materials (programmes, banners, backdrops, invitations).
8. Outreach, Partnerships & Community Engagement
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase visibility among key audiences (donors, policymakers, youth, NGOs).
- Build communication partnerships with like-minded organizations and networks.
- Engage with online communities and followers to maintain active interaction.
9. Internal Communication & Coordination
- Ensure smooth communication across teams, directors, and project managers.
- Support leadership in preparing presentations and communication materials for internal use.
10. Team Management & Collaboration
- Directly supervise the graphic designer, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and alignment with organizational needs.
- Define priorities, assign design tasks, and ensure visual consistency across all platforms.
- Provide feedback and creative guidance on graphic materials, layout, and visual storytelling.
- Coordinate with external service providers (printers, video editors, agencies) when needed.
- Mentor volunteers or ambassadors on communication principles when applicable.
11. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
- Track communication and marketing KPIs (growth, engagement, visibility, conversion).
- Prepare regular reports for management on communication performance and impact.
- Analyze analytics data to improve campaign effectiveness.
- Conduct post-campaign evaluations and lessons-learned sessions.
- Contribute to the Foundation’s annual report with communication highlights, metrics, and visual content.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in an international NGO or sustainability-focused organization.
- Proven experience managing communication strategy, PR, and digital campaigns from concept to delivery.
- Outstanding writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English and/or French (fluency in both highly desirable).
- Experience supervising or collaborating closely with graphic designers and creative teams.
- Proficiency with content management systems, newsletter platforms (Mailchimp, Hubspot), and social media tools (Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Buffer, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of analytics tools (Google Analytics, social media insights, UTM tracking).
- Skilled in photography, videography, and livestreaming setup and management.
- Excellent project management, multitasking, and organizational abilities.
- Creativity, autonomy, and the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Passion for sustainability, environmental protection, and global cooperation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in advocacy communication, sustainability policy, or environmental campaigns.
- Familiarity with SEO, Google Ads, and digital advertising.
- Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) or Canva.
- Experience working in multicultural and multilingual environments.
- Additional languages (Spanish, Arabic, German, etc.) are an asset.
