Description
The Kofi Annan Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation, legally incorporated in Switzerland.
The Foundation’s mission is to promote better global governance and strengthen the capacities of people and countries to achieve a fairer, more peaceful world. The Foundation works with partners around the world to address emerging challenges and policy gaps that threaten peace, development, human rights, and democratic governance.
The intern will work across the Foundation’s Youth and Peace Programme and Communications teams, with a particular focus on the Kofi Annan Changemakers project and digital communications support.
The Kofi Annan Changemakers Initiative is a value-based leadership programme that elevates the voices of the current generation of young changemakers and builds their capacity for positive action on the challenges of today. They go on to perpetuate Kofi Annan’s vision, ethics and values (The “Kofi Annan Way”) and become part of the global Kofi Annan Changemakers network. The Initiative is currently in its 6th edition and is in the process of identifying the new cohort. Further information on the programme can be found on our webpage.
The Internship is full-time and is for a fixed term of 6 months starting mid-May until mid-November 2026.
This internship will include a variety of the following tasks:
Support the Communications team with the following tasks:
- Draft and edit content for digital channels, including website articles, newsletters, and social media posts.
- Support the planning and preparation of communications campaigns linked to the Foundation’s programmes and international observances.
- Assist in preparing social media content (LinkedIn and Instagram), including captions, basic visuals, and scheduling posts.
- Help maintain and update website content (formatting, uploading articles, updating programme pages).
- Support the preparation of communications materials such as event announcements and speaker biographies.
- Support photo and video asset management, including image selection, caption writing, and ensuring proper credit and permissions.
Support the 2026 Kofi Annan Changemakers Initiative with the following tasks:
- Manage the technical aspects of the Kofi Annan Changemakers programme online sessions (recording, participant monitoring, breakout rooms, note taking).
- Draft follow-up communications to participants and support preparation of post-session surveys and analysis.
- Support preparations before and during the in-person Geneva module (logistics, coordination, and communications).
- Maintain the Changemakers youth repository and contribute to alumni network engagement.
Skills and competencies required
- Excellent written and spoken English; fluency in French is a strong advantage.
- Nearing completion of a first degree in international relations, international law, politics, economics, communications, or a related field.
- Strong research, organisational, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and computer literacy.
- A strong interest in international affairs, governance, peacebuilding, and human rights.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines.
- Experience working with youth is a major asset.
Mandatory requirements to apply:
- You must be a Swiss/EU citizen or hold a valid work permit for Switzerland.
- Note: Student citizens of non-EU/EFTA countries are forbidden to seek paid employment during the first 6 months from their arrival in Switzerland.
- You must be enrolled in university during the internship, and be able to enter a three-way agreement between yourself, Kofi Annan Foundation, and your university;
- The internship must be intra-cursus, i.e., part of an academic training programme, a professional training program or a socio-professional integration programme, and must meet the conditions set by the Conseil de surveillance du marché de l’emploi (CSME). We will automatically reject applications which do not meet these criteria established by the State of Geneva.
Please note: the internship is not remunerated; the intern will gain hands-on experience in digital communications, including social media content creation, website management, and communications campaigns linked to global policy initiatives, exposure to international policy work and youth programme work. The intern will also participate in sessions of the Kofi Annan Changemakers initiative including during the in-person module and get to meet with these inspiring young leaders from across the world.
