At DCAF, we envision a world where democratic security sector governance advances sustainable peace and development and human dignity for all.

Our mission is to advance the security of all people through nationally owned, inclusive, and participatory security sector reforms based on international norms and good practices.

DCAF contributes to making peace and development more sustainable by assisting partner states and international actors supporting these states, to improve the governance of their security sector through inclusive and participatory reforms. It creates innovative knowledge products, promotes norms and good practices, provides legal and policy advice and supports capacity‐building of both state and non‐state security sector stakeholders.

For our team, we are looking for a dynamic and proactive communicator to be our next:

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Location:                       Geneva, Switzerland

Starting date:               As soon as possible

Duration:                       9 month fixed-term contract

Work rate                       80-100%

Remuneration              2’740 CHF monthly gross stipend for a full-time internship

The Role

The Communications Intern supports the Communications team by handling essential, time-consuming operational tasks and processes. This role helps ensure the smooth delivery of day-to-day outputs, in line with the team’s 2026 work plan. It requires a full range of communications skills and offers opportunities to work on diverse projects.

Key areas of operation:

  • Website management: Publish and update content on www.dcaf.ch, ensuring accuracy and consistency; Liaise with teams to collect and get relevant content; Contribute to content creation and tracking of website analytics.
  • Intranet support: Publish content; Create and update intranet pages.
  • Social media: Support with engagement tracking (all analytics), daily online media monitoring, content creation and collection, planning and scheduling of posts.
  • Information management: Assist with organizing, filling and maintaining communication materials.
  • Team support and gap filing: Provide support during absences and contribute to general communication and administrative tasks as needed.

Your profile and experience

  • Diploma or degree in communications, public relations, web development/management, or a related field.
  • Native English speaker with proven writing and editing ability, and a good command of French.
  • Familiarity with web content management systems (incl. SharePoint) and social media platforms.
  • At ease with new technology and communication trends.
  • Attention to details.

Minimum requirement:

  • A valid B student permit for Switzerland valid until the end of the foreseen duration of contract (or a Swiss/EU citizenship).
