UNI Care, part of UNI Global Union is seeking a Senior Research Consultant on the Care economy to assist the UNI Care sector with the goal to growing care unions, improving working conditions in the health and care sectors and achieving better regulation and building global labour relations with the leading multinationals. This is a one-year position with the potential to be extended if the project is renewed.

UNI Care (private care and social insurance) is a large, growing, exciting and dynamic sector within UNI Global Union. This sector has developed a strategic action plan which unites and aligns efforts in all UNI regions for coordinated and integrated action.
About the Role
The Senior Research Consultant on the Care Economy will play a pivotal role in UNI Care’s mission by producing strategic research, analysis, and advocacy materials to empower care sector unions and support global efforts to advance workers’ rights. Reporting to the Head of UNI Care and UNI Care’s Senior Coordinator, the consultant will be instrumental in gathering data, generating insights, managing knowledge, and engaging stakeholders to drive transformative change.
As a Senior Research Consultant your main tasks will be to:
- Conduct in-depth research and produce analysis on the care economy, including policy, sector, corporate and country profiles, to support UNI Care’s goals.
- Develop and implement knowledge management practices to capture, organize, and disseminate critical information, ensuring the accessibility of insights and research findings for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor and report on relevant developments in the care sector, including union activities, labor laws, and policy changes affecting workers, and maintain up-to-date repositories of this information for the UNI Care team.
- Gather, organize, and validate evidence from various sources, including UNI affiliates, international organizations, and civil society, to ensure comprehensive and reliable data for research and advocacy initiatives.
- Prepare materials, presentations, and documents for high-level meetings, conferences, and forums to effectively communicate research insights.
- Present research findings to UNI affiliates, donors, policymakers, and other stakeholders, fostering understanding and support for UNI Care’s initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with UNI affiliates and partners to collect evidence and data, reflecting the real-world challenges faced by care sector workers and informing advocacy and policy recommendations.
- Develop reports and proposals tailored for donors, showcasing UNI Care’s impact and securing support for continued initiatives.
This is a consultant position and can be remote.
Experience & Competencies
This is a demanding role that requires significant skills and experience. Our successful candidate
will have:
- A strong personal commitment to the goals of UNI Global Union and the trade union movement.
- Proven academic knowledge and credentials about the care sector and especially about the care economy.
- Strong writing, public speaking and communication skills.
- Fluency in English, spoken and written, is essential. Knowledge of a second language is an asset.
- A deep understanding of contemporary labour problems, the challenges facing unions.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
- Strong research experience relating to trade unions or workers’ rights, migrant worker or informal worker rights would be an advantage.
- Existing network with NGOs, civil society organisations and international organisations in the care space would be an advantage.
- In addition, the successful candidate:
- Can work well with affiliates and with the Head Office and Regional staff with differing experiences, industrial relations systems and trade union cultures.
- Demonstrates effective time management skills, including prioritising and managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Has experience in developing and being accountable to personal work plans and goals.
- Has the ability to plan strategically and administratively, and implement plans effectively.
