The World Organisation Against Torture – OMCT

Description

The World Organisation Against Torture Office in Geneva is seeking to recruit an intern for its Development Team, to provide increased capacity for researching new funding opportunities, supporting fundraising efforts, donor reporting and the contributing to the setting up of new development processes.

ABOUT THE OMCT

The OMCT works with around 200 member organisations which constitute its SOS-Torture Network, to end torture, fight impunity and protect human rights defenders worldwide. Together, we make up the largest global group actively standing up to torture in more than 75 countries. Helping local voices be heard, we support our vital partners in the field and provide direct assistance to victims. Our international secretariat is based in Geneva, with offices in Brussels and Tunis.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intern will be working under the overall supervision of the Director of Development. In the course of their work, the intern will have opportunities to engage with programme staff, external partners and donors. Carrying out a variety of tasks in different areas of the Development Team’s work will provide an opportunity for the intern to gain insight into fundraising, donor relations and project management in the human rights sector.

Main responsibilities

  • Fundraising activities:
    • Research on prospective institutional and private donors, their strategies, deadlines, and requirements for the submission of proposals
    • Donor mapping and deadline tracking
    • Maintenance of the OMCT donor database (Salesforce CRM)
    • Preparation or update of publicity materials and presentations to support fundraising for OMCT programmes
    • Assisting in managing relations with private donors (acknowledgements, invitations, etc.)
    • Assisting in submitting fundraising applications to institutional donors.
  • Reporting:
    • Creating activity reporting forms
    • Collating and reviewing activity reports
    • Creating report templates
    • Assisting in the drafting and finalising of donor reports
  • Events and meetings:
    • Assistance in coordinating and organising donor briefings and donor-related OMCT events
    • Any other tasks as needed

 QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s programme in social sciences, marketing, communications, journalism, or related field
  • The internship must be a compulsory part of the education curriculum and as such one of the conditions to obtain the desired certificate/diploma (validated through earning of credits)
  • Candidates must be available for 40-50% during the term and 100% during term holidays
  • Strong drafting and editing skills in English and French
  • Sound digital skills, experience in copywriting an asset
  • Experience with databases would be an asset
  • Ability to solve problems, take initiatives, and organize priorities independently
  • Ability to work under pressure, to meet deadlines and to adapt to multidisciplinary work
  • Interest in human rights
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and interpersonal skills

WHAT WE OFFER

Remuneration: 500 CHF per month

Starting date: ideally 1 August 2025, depending on intern’s availability

Duration of the internship: 4-6 months
