Background

The International Hospital Federation is seeking an Engagement Manager to join the Geneva Centre of Healthcare Leadership for Sustainability. This is an exciting, yet challenging role that will suit self-motivated candidates who want to generate real impact at the nexus of climate change and healthcare services.

Headquartered in Switzerland, the Geneva Centre of Healthcare Leadership for Sustainability’s vision is to equip a global community of hospital leaders with the skills they need to lead their organizations in developing and executing effective responses to climate change. The Centre will support hospital leaders with capacity-building training, executive assessment programmes, and knowledge exchanges around the world. Through this work, the Geneva Centre of Healthcare Leadership for Sustainability seeks to reduce the healthcare sector’s direct contributions to global carbon emissions and accelerate the transition of hospitals to low-carbon healthcare.

A multi-year funding commitment is in place to establish and grow the Centre, providing a unique opportunity for an exceptional events and engagement professional to support the development of a new global initiative at the intersect between climate change and healthcare.

Position Overview

The Engagement Manager will play a key role in the Geneva Centre’s core team. Working in close collaboration with the Executive Director, the post holder will establish and deliver a high-quality portfolio of communications and engagement initiatives to grow the Geneva Centre’s reach and engage with its key stakeholders.

Events and workshops (both face-to-face and virtual) will play a crucial part in the Geneva Centre’s work – connecting its stakeholders, supporting learning and knowledge sharing and growing its reach. The Engagement Manager will design and deliver the Geneva Centre’s programme of events designed to position the organization as a key player on the agenda of healthcare leadership and sustainability, and ultimately playing a part in achieving the Centre’s mission of equipping hospital executives with the skills they need to respond to climate change.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for delivering events management, communications, and engagement functions for the Geneva Centre by:

Communications and Engagement:

  • Creating communications and engagement plans for specific projects/campaigns led by the Geneva Centre and managing their effective implementation.
  • Establishing, managing ,and producing content for the Geneva Centre’s external communication channels (for example, social media accounts, newsletter, website etc.).
  • Forming relationships with relevant media outlets worldwide to promote news, events, and activities, and to build the profile of the Geneva Centre and Executive Director.
  • Leading and overseeing the evaluation agreed metrics to measure the impact of communication/engagement activities and functions across the Geneva Centre.
  • Linking the Geneva Centre’s communications, engagement, and event activities with those of the International Hospital Federation ensuring these activities are synergistic and add value to one another.

Events Management

  • Project managing the design and delivery of a varied portfolio of events (in-person, hybrid and virtual), from larger conferences to collaborative workshops and stakeholder engagement events to the Geneva Centre’s presence at third party events.
  • Developing the approach for the Geneva Centre’s events overall so that these align with organizational objectives, brand, and values, and respond to audience expectations as they evolve.
  • Putting in place the tools, systems and suppliers the Geneva Centre’s requires for the smooth and effective running of events.

In addition, the post holder may be asked to undertake any other reasonable duties required. This is a hands-on ‘doing’ role with requirement for experience in the planning and implementation of events, communications, and engagement.

Profile Requirements

Prospective candidates will need to demonstrate these competencies in an assessment and at interview.

Essential Criteria:

  • Significant experience in a similar position and organization, including a successful track record of delivering hybrid and virtual events, and delivering communications and engagement initiatives.
  • Excellent project management skills, managing multiple complex communications/event deliverables from start to finish and delivering to tight deadlines.
  • A good understanding of best practice in digital approaches for events, including knowledge of virtual event platforms.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, engaging large and varied audiences of internal and external stakeholders with confidence and credibility, using appropriate tools and language.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the organization and employ effective negotiating and influencing skills to ensure that all relevant people are engaged in the planning and delivery of events.
  • Be a native or fluent English speaker with excellent oral and writing skills (the operating language of the IHF is English).
  • Be self-supporting, with a strong motivation and passionate commitment to achieving effective action against climate change, in support of improving human health.
  • High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office systems, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint, as well as specialist communication platforms (for example, Hootsuite).
  • Ability to work remotely, blending in-person and virtual approaches as required.
  • Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite.

Desirable Criteria

  • An understanding of the international health arena and direct exposure to healthcare leaders both at national and international levels.
  • An understanding of the links between climate change and health.
