About Action for Development (AfD)

Action for Development is an NGO with offices in Geneva Switzerland and Kabul Afghanistan. AfD aims to ensure that funding for health and community development programs are spent in ways that maximize its impact, partnering with local organizations at the grass roots level.  The main focus areas of our programs are strategic health facilities management, maternal, neonatal and child health services expansion, family planning, water, sanitation and hygiene, women's empowerment, capacity building and education. In 2014, AfD was granted consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Responsibilities of the Education Officer

The Education program Officer will be responsible for fundraising, proposal submission, monitoring and reporting activities linked to the School for Street-Working Children project.

Specific activities:

  • Work closely with the Education Program Head and the team to develop content to communicate AfD’s objectives and achievements to date and the work-plan.
  • Take the lead in identifying potential donors, proposal writing and submission to relevant donors.
  • Assist in day-to-day research supporting the organization's activities (Street Working Kids Education programs).
  • Participate in events organized by AfD, and represent organization on workshops and seminars as needed
  • Create and update relevant project material in French and English.
  • Writing of monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • Responding to inquiries (data/reports) from partner organizations and potential partner organizations.
  • Contribute to social media material development and editing.
  • Create and upload success stories for our donors on AfD’s website to display achievements and success stories of various projects
  • Undertake any other task as requested by line manager or program director.
  • Participate in data analysis and report writing for upcoming evaluations and impact study project undertaken by the organization.
  • Assist with the reports for maintaining of ECOSOC Accreditation status with UN.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree in Social Sciences, Education or a similar field, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience with international organizations, international postings, or managing projects.
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken. French would be an asset.
  • Detail orientated, good organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

Terms of the Contract:

  • Please note that this is an unpaid part-time volunteer position
  • Time Commitment: minimum of one day per week, either working in the office or remotely. The candidate should ideally be based in Geneva.
