DCAF – Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance is dedicated to improving the security of states and their people within a framework of democratic governance, the rule of law, respect for human rights, and gender equality. For our Operations Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Division, we are looking for a highly dedicated and dynamic individual to be our next:

JUNIOR PROJECT OFFICER – Middle East Desk, Operations MENA (100 %)

  • Location: Geneva, with occasional travel to the region,
  • Starting date: October 2022
  • Duration: 24 months fixed-term contract, renewable

The role

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Division Operations MENA, the Junior Project Officer assumes responsibility for supporting the development, implementation and monitoring of programmes and projects in DCAF's countries of operation in the Middle East and North Africa,

Tasks include (but are not limited to):

  • Support the development of DCAF’s programmes related to security sector reform and governance in the Middle East and North Africa, including support for conceptualizing, designing, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programmes and projects in the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Contribute to financial reporting and financial procedures.
  • Adapt project implementation in response to changes in local developments
  • Support field offices and partners on project implementation.
  • Compile and edit periodic project reports to donors
  • Identify partners and experts; negotiate fees and terms of reference, draft contracts, and follow-up to ensure satisfactory implementation
  • Organize and undertake missions to the region as needed
  • Provide additional support across the MENA division as may be necessary determined by line manager.

Minimum requirements

  • An advanced university degree in law, political sciences, international relations, development, security studies or related field
  • Up to 3 years work experience in public sector reform or management, preferably within the fields of security and/or justice reform (internships not included)
  • Proven track record in managing projects, preferably in the MENA region
  • Fluency in English (both spoken and written); knowledge of Arabic is a strong advantage
  • Strong presentation skills and experience of working as part of an international and multicultural team
  • Cultural sensitivity, ideally familiarity with the MENA region
  • Swiss or EU citizenship or valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is required
