Position within the Organization

This position is to cover the maternity leave of the Head of HR.  In his/her role, the Global HR Manager leads the human resources function and is responsible of an overall team of 9 HR members across different countries, including supervising 5 direct reports comprising of the Regional HR Manager for ECA, Regional HR Officer for WAO, the Global L&D Officer, the Global HR Support Officer and Administrative Assistant.

He/she is a member of the Global Operations Unit which encompasses Finance, IT, Administration, Legal, Internal Audit and HR. The Global Operations Unit is led from the Headquarters office in Geneva, although team members are based in different locations around the world including in Bosnia, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Côte d’Ivoire, Guatemala, Libya, Burkina Faso, Switzerland, Kenya, and Tunisia.

Duties and responsibilities

Management of HR team

  • Oversees, guides and coordinates the HR team on the agreed HR 2023 Workplan deliverables
  • Motivates, develops, inspires, and sustains a high performance and cohesive HR team
  • Leads and coordinates with the team the strengthening of internal HR processes
  • Monitors, evaluates and documents the individual performance of direct reports through a staff development lens

Learning & Development

Oversees the design and delivery of global Learning & development interventions that support the execution of the organizational strategy and enhance business performance across the organization, this includes training needs assessment, socialization sessions of various processes and policies, induction content for new joiners.

Compensation and Grading

  • Conducts regular review of Birches salary surveys for identified duty stations and recommends changes to salary scales to ensure high standards of resource management and maintain the ability of the organization to attract and retain talent
  • Prepare and coordinate any changes in staff salary throughout the year (yearly step increments, rewards and recognition..)


  • Participates in interviewing processes for key positions, monitoring for suitability and compatibility with the level and requirements of the vacant position
  • Reviews and validates all employment offers & contracts for Europe, Middle East and West Africa.
  • Develops strong cooperation with line managers to understand their strategic staffing needs and fill vacancies in a timely manner with high caliber candidates
  • Supervises the Global HR Support Officer in the coordination of the recruitment of Geneva-based positions
  • Trains line managers in collaboration with the Global Learning & Development Officer & Global HR Support Officer on best practice assessment and recruiting process

Management of employee work cycle

  • Ensure the coordination of successful employee onboarding and set up in Geneva. Oversees contracting and effective personnel onboarding across the organization.
  • Liaises between employees and management on specific issues of conflict or grievances related to organizational policy and procedure
  • Review and validate all new hire and renewal of staff contracts across the organization
  • Oversee the complete personnel files in Geneva and the maintenance of personnel files in the field
  • Manages employee separations including coordination of disciplinary processes, terminations and exit interviews. Ensure all required paperwork is filed including relevant letters, PAF forms, End of Service form, Employee certificates, insurance notifications, and notification to relevant authorities
  • Oversee the HR online platform which includes staff leave management records, performance management, recruitment and employee documentation
  • Administers the payroll and related local regulatory processes for the Geneva Office, and any other entity with no HR resource. Monitors and approve other offices’ payrolls.




  • Advanced/graduate university degree in human resources, industrial/organizational psychology, public/business administration, psychology, or related subjects.


  • Minimum seven years of solid and progressive experience in the professional field of human resources management and in global HR contexts
  • Proven experience in Team management
  • Experience with non-profit or international organizations
  • Understanding of different labor markets as our peacebuilding work cross over various countries.
  • Sound knowledge of Swiss labor law
  • Proven experience and ability to work successfully as part of a diverse and multicultural team and collaborating effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders


  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of management principles as they relate to multi-cultural and complex organizations
  • Excellent knowledge of and ability to apply human resource management theories and principles and capacity to think systematically
  • Proficient in English (B2 or above) and French.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and good judgment
  • Ability to interact with people respectfully and with tact
