The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Advocacy Officer Child Rights (maternity cover) in Geneva, Switzerland Save the Children International office location.

The Geneva Office

The Geneva Office has a major focus on Advocacy, and more recently on Humanitarian Operations. It currently consists of 12-13 salaried staff and a number of associates/interns. The main goal of the Geneva advocacy function is to create positive change for children by advocating key child rights issues and influencing policy and practice at the global level. This is done by working with and advocating to the United Nations bodies, member states and other organizations based in Geneva. Alongside the advocacy staff, other colleagues work from the Geneva Office in leading roles in Save the Children’s humanitarian operational response.

The Advocacy Officer Child Rights will have overall responsibility for the coordination and delivery of the Local to Global advocacy grant, ensuring the linkages between advocacy and programmes at local/ national level and the advocacy work of the global advocacy offices in Geneva, New York, Addis Ababa and Brussels.

The Advocacy Officer Child Rights will also support the implementation of SC global advocacy strategies on child rights governance and child protection breakthroughs and priorities towards the UN fora in Geneva, particularly the UN Human Rights mechanisms.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

Qualifications

  • Master Degree preferably in international law, political science, international relations or other related disciplines.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in child rights, gender quality, child protection or related field at international level.
  • Experience in advocacy, lobbying and policy work at international level.
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.
  • Knowledge of the United Nations and international human rights machinery, especially the Human Rights Council, its Special Procedures and the Universal Periodic Review and the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
  • A commitment to child rights and to the aims, mission and goal of Save the Children.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Fluency in English and French is essential. Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset.

We can offer circa 69,000 CHF per annum with an option of flexible working hours.

This role will be based in Geneva, Switzerland Save the Children International office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
