Description

The Inclusive Risk Reduction division of the GICHD works towards reducing the risks from explosive ordnance in a gender and diversity sensitive and responsive manner. We advise and support national mine action authorities/centres, national and international operators and other stakeholders to ensure that gender and diversity considerations are mainstreamed in national mine action programmes and to improve the overall effectiveness, efficiency, relevance and integration of explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) within the mine action sector and beyond. Through assessments, technical assistance, training, research, and advocacy work, our Inclusive Risk Reduction Division is committed to improving the impact of mine action interventions on women, girls, boys, and men from diverse groups in affected communities according to identified needs and priorities. We also support the GICHD internally on gender equality, inclusion, and the empowerment of women and girls.

Our Advisors are responsible for the planning, implementation and monitoring of activities in collaboration with, and under the guidance of the Programme Manager to advance the Centre’s strategic objectives and outcomes. In this role you will contribute to the delivery of assessments, technical assistance, research, trainings/workshops and online learning products. You will provide thematic mainstreaming support to the work of the other GICHD divisions and programmes, including to integrated assessments, strategic planning processes, standards development and review, and regional cooperation programme activities. You will also conduct research, remain abreast of emerging capabilities in your area of expertise and share innovative thinking and initiatives to enhance the Centre’s outreach and impact.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Act as the focal point for selected national mine action programmes and/or organisations, supporting them in establishing a well-functioning gender and diversity mainstreaming capacity;
    • Responsible (lead) for deliverables within various GDEI projects, including liaison with project stakeholders, planning of activities and technical assistance.
    • Planning and implementation of activities of the GDEI programme, including field travel to low-medium-high risk environments to conduct visits, workshops and trainings on GDEI and other related topics;
  • Advise assigned national mine action programmes and/or organisations in the area of expertise, understanding their needs, priorities and challenges, and supporting them in developing capacity and implementing action plans.
  • Support, and in some cases lead, the delivery of products and/or projects, planning activities, and providing technical assistance. Coordinate with colleagues from other divisions for joint activities, technical assistance and initiatives such as integrated assessments, strategic planning processes, standards development, and regional cooperation programme activities as assigned by the Programme Manager.
  • Conduct assessments, facilitate workshops and provide consultation remotely and onsite, including field travel to low-medium-high risk environments.
  • Develop and maintain training material as well as deliver training sessions.
  • Participate in or present at conferences, meetings, workshops and other outreach activities. Liaise with mine action stakeholders, including national authorities and partners to the GICHD.
  • Act as an internal focal point on institutional or project/country-based working groups;
  • Prepare, monitor and analyse budgets and expenditures in liaison with the programme manager, programme officer and the Finance division;
  • Liaise with external consultants, including design of terms of references, coordination of outputs and reporting, and administration of contracts, logistics and invoices.

Professional profile

  • An advanced university degree in a relevant field e.g. gender studies, international development, international relations
  • Applied expertise in mainstreaming gender and diversity and promoting equality and inclusion in a humanitarian or development context, preferably with an international exposure
  • 2 - 5 years maximum of professional experience in gender, diversity and inclusion programming, preferably with an exposure to humanitarian mine action
  • Advanced understanding of relevant global agendas, disability inclusion and conflict sensitivity is desirable
  • Practical technical skills in implementing gender and diversity responsive and transformative approaches
  • Experience in training design and delivery and in facilitating workshops and events for adults with diverse multi-cultural background
  • Knowledge of UN agencies, national authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders involved in GDEI, explosive ordnance risk reduction and wider humanitarian, development and protection sectors
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and identities and to build trusting relations, networks and partnerships
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to produce high quality written work
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities and take the initiative on the planning and implementation of activities
  • Knowledge of results-based project management
  • Fluent verbal and written English as a working language. An additional working language such as Arabic, French, Spanish, or other language(s) used in countries/territories affected by explosive ordnance is desired
