Mercy Hands Europe (MHEurope) is a women-led international non-profit organisation registered in Geneva, Switzerland, since 2019. It is the sister organisation of Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid (MH), the biggest local NGO in Iraq founded in 2004. MHEurope's mission is to empower vulnerable people living in the disaster areas of Iraq, Syria and Ethiopia through our sister organisation and local partners. We focus primarily on education, protection, emergency, and livelihood sectors. We support the development and implementation of our projects with partner organisations on the ground. Our project management experience and expertise, with sustainability as a core value, and our presence in Switzerland, allow us to secure long-term sources of income and ensure capacity building of local communities.

MHEurope is offering a 6 month contract for the role of Project Manager. The starting date of the role will ideally be the 1st of December 2023. The candidate must be already based in Geneva.

  • Location: Geneva, Switzerland
  • 6 months (Full-time: 100%)
  • Monthly salary: 4160 CHF (Gross Salary).

Tasks and Responsibilities

You will report to the Executive Director and your main role will be (1) To launch (create, write and fundraise) new projects (2) to manage ongoing projects - specifically within the field of protection, international social services and justice capacity building. 

In detail, your responsibilities include: 

Projects:

  • Identifying suitable funding opportunities for projects, both new and ongoing (call for proposals, foundations, institutional funders, INGOs, UN agencies, private donors, etc.)
  • Developing new projects for implementation in the Middle East in regions (especially protection, international social services and justice capacity building)
  • Manage ongoing projects in the above-mentioned areas (administration, work plan, finances, visibility and communications, coordinating with implementing partners and reporting to donors and Board of Directors)
  • Coordinate fundraising campaigns for projects in the above-mentioned areas
  • Assist the Executive Director in the general administrative processes of the organisation, especially those linked to your projects.

Communications

  • Organising meetings, trainings and events in Switzerland, Europe or in the project implementation locations
  • Managing social networks and external communications
  • Advocating for the needs of the communities related to your projects with key international stakeholders
  • Representing MHEurope in meetings and events with key international stakeholders

Requirements & Competencies

  • MA in a relevant field, such as international relations, conflict and peace studies, international development, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (C2)
  • Five years of relevant experience, including in project coordination and management, administration, communications, fundraising, etc. including two years within International Geneva; experience in the field of security, rule of law, peacebuilding is considered an asset
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the culture and local context in the Middle East, especially Iraq and Syria
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and fundraising, including in the field of transitional justice in the Middle East
  • Demonstrated thematic interest in international development and humanitarian work in the above-mentioned sectors
  • Good knowledge of Switzerland, its actors and institutions is an added value
  • Good knowledge of MS office suite (word, excel, PowerPoint), social media management and Google Drive. Knowledge of image editing software is an asset
  • Ability to follow suggestions but also to work independently and flexibly
  • Ability to manage time successfully and continually meet objectives
  • Ability to work in an international and multicultural team.
