Background

The Global Survivors Fund (“GSF”) was launched in October 2019 by Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize laureates 2018. Its mission is to enhance access to reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the globe, thus responding to a gap long identified by survivors. GSF acts to provide interim reparative measures in situations where states or other parties are unable or unwilling to meet their responsibilities. GSF advocates for duty bearers as well as the international community to develop reparations programmes. It also guides states and civil society by providing expertise and technical support for designing reparations programmes. GSF’s survivor-centric approach is the cornerstone of its work. 

Role Summary

The Communications Intern will support the Communications Unit in producing its Annual Activity Report and will assist the migration of the organisation’s audio-visual and digital assets to a new data management system. The Communications Intern will report to the Publications and Audio-Visual Officer.

Position Responsibilities

 Annual Activity Report

  • Assists the Communications Unit members in the organisation and the tracking of all written material necessary to produce the Annual Activity Report
  • Liaise with feature authors to provide support in the completion of their piece
  • Liaises with GSF team members to ensure all missing texts or data needed for the report are provided
  • Assists the Communications Unit with photo selection for the Annual Activity Report
  • Helps with the creation of a flat plan
  • Keeps project matrix updated throughout the development of the report.

Audio-visual and digital content migration

  • Assists the Communications Unit in the migration of content to a new DAM (data asset management system)
  • Performs photos selection when necessary
  • Ensure adequate metadata (captions, credits, tags, etc) is properly attributed to each photo once migrated to the DAM
  • Ensures formal and informed consent has been obtained from the subject of the photograph
  • Performs video selection
  • Reviews usage for each audio-visual element (public use, internal use)
  • Provides support to the wider GSF team during training on how to use the data management system.

General

  • Takes ad-hoc projects as delegated by the Communications Unit.

Position Requirements

This internship is part of an academic training program, a professional training program or a socio-professional integration program, and must meet the conditions set by the Conseil de surveillance du marché de l'emploi (CSME).

Other Essential requirements

  • Degree in Communication or related field
  • Excellent command of English
  • Genuine interest in photography and videography
  • Genuine interest in the work of Global Survivors Fund.
