Founded in 2002, TRIAL International is a non-governmental organization fighting impunity for international crimes and supporting victims in their quest for justice. The organization takes an innovative approach to the law, paving the way to justice for survivors of unspeakable suffering. With offices in Geneva, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Democratic Republic of Congo, TRIAL International provides legal assistance, conducts investigations, litigates cases, develops local capacity, and pushes the human rights agenda forward.

With a budget of around 4.5 million CHF, the organization benefits from a diverse donor base, including institutional donors, private foundations, international organizations and individual contributions.

The Operations Department of TRIAL International is seeking applicants for the position of Project Officer for 80 – 100%, based in Geneva.

YOUR MISSION

As Project Officer, you will play a key role in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of assigned projects. You will support various project teams and legal staff to ensure that activities are implemented in line with grants and proposals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Planning and Implementation:

    • Work closely with the Director of Operations, Heads of Program, Legal Coordinators and other internal interlocutors to develop project plans, timelines, and budgets.
    • Ensure strict compliance with grants and donor requirements, including but not limited to European Union regulations.
    • Closely follow project activities, ensuring adherence to project goals, objectives, and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to implement project activities effectively and provide administrative and logistical support where needed.
  • Be TRIAL International’s representative in the program management unit of an EU-funded consortium project.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

    • Design and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess project progress.
    • Regularly collect and analyze data to measure project impact and identify areas for improvement.
    • Prepare and submit detailed project reports to the Director of Operations, as well as activity reports to external stakeholders when relevant.

Partnership and Stakeholder Management:

    • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with project partners and other stakeholders.
    • Support in performing partnership assessments and contracting partners (including assisting staff members with procurement process, drafting non-disclosure agreements and waivers where required).

 Budget Management:

    • Assist in budget development and ensure adherence to approved budgets.
    • Monitor project expenditures and provide regular financial reports to the Heads of Programs / Director of Operations and Director of Finance and HR.
    • Organize the centralization and optimize the keeping of supporting documents relating to project expenditure.
    • Prepare financial reports to donors and facilitate project audits, in collaboration with the Department of Finance and administration.

 Fundraising:

    • Provide support in the development of funding proposals and budgets and support the reporting to donors (narrative and financial).

 

YOUR PROFILE

  • Prior experience in project management financed by institutional donors is essential for this position. Prior experience in working on EU-funded projects is an asset
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in a similar function, including financial management, preferably within a legal or development NGO
  • Hold a graduate degree or equivalent in project management, business administration, law, international relations, political science, or other relevant field
  • Analytical, creative, ability to work independently and to set priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, intercultural skills, listening and negotiation skills
  • Good command of Microsoft Office IT tools, particularly Excel
  • Excellent command of English and French, both written and spoken
  • Proven interest in the theme of human rights and strong identification with the mandate of TRIAL International
  • Swiss national, European Union national, EFTA national or in possession of a work authorization valid in Switzerland
