About IAHRAG:

IAHRAG is a Geneva-based non-profit organization, dedicated to promoting and defending the inherent dignity and rights of every individual un Türkiye and globally. Our mission is to act as a catalyst for positive change by engaging in human rights advocacy on both national and international levels, particularly focusing on the mechanisms of the United Nations and the European Court of Human Rights.

Position Overview:

The Human Rights Program Officer will play a crucial role in advancing IAHRAG's mission by supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our human rights advocacy programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human rights, refugee rights, judiciary in Türkiye, experience working with international mechanisms and having experience on individual complaint mechanisms (including Human Rights Council, its special procedures and the treaty bodies of the United Nations), and a passion for promoting democratic principles and inclusive societies.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Management:

  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of IAHRAG's human rights programs.
  • Coordinate with the Program Director to ensure program activities align with IAHRAG's strategic goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.

Advocacy and Research:

  • Conduct research and analysis on human rights issues, particularly focusing on challenges in Türkiye and globally.
  • Draft reports, policy briefs, and advocacy materials to support IAHRAG's advocacy efforts.
  • Participate in advocacy campaigns and engage with stakeholders to promote human rights.
  • Prepare individual applications to the relevant human rights mechanisms.

International Engagement:

  • Liaise with international bodies, including the United Nations and the European Court of Human Rights, to advocate for policy changes.
  • Represent IAHRAG at international conferences, meetings, and forums.
  • Build and maintain relationships with international partners, NGOs, and other stakeholders.

Educational and Outreach Initiatives:

  • Develop and implement educational programs to raise awareness about human rights issues.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and training sessions for diverse audiences.
  • Produce and disseminate educational materials, including newsletters, social media content, and reports.

Administrative Support:

  • Assist in preparing project budgets and managing financial resources effectively.
  • Prepare regular program reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other administrative duties as required to support the program team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Rights, International Relations, Law, Political Science (one of IEP SciencesPo is desirable), or a related field; and a Master's degree on related fields.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in human rights advocacy.
  • Strong understanding of the global context and judiciary in Türkiye and international human rights mechanisms, particularly within the United Nations and the European Court of Human Rights.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective advocacy strategies.
  • Experience in organizing and conducting educational and outreach activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in English and in French; C2 level of Turkish is mandatory.
