 Job description :

The IOE is looking for a Deputy to assist the IOE Secretary General, taking on the following responsibilities:

  • As second in charge after the IOE Secretary General, the Deputy will represent the IOE and assist the Secretary-General in all high-level matters and relations with IOE Members, the UN and other international organisations in Geneva and around the world.
  • Provide support and guidance to IOE Senior Advisers and staff.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of the IOE in the labour, social and human rights policy development within the ILO and other UN agencies and intergovernmental or multilateral forums.
  • Manage and expand IOE’s strategic projects and partnerships, in particular with the UN, ILO and other international organisations.
  • Manage IOE’s network of business associations around the world.
  • Supervise IOE’s engagement on Business & Human Rights, as well as the CSR Coordinates.
  • IOE’s engagement in the G20 and G7 processes.
  • IOE’s engagement on forced labour and child labour
  • Strengthen IOE’s service portfolio related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Provide capacity building services for the IOE members and networks and develop guidance for them, including seeking funding to maximize IOE’ s impact.

Qualifications:

  • Master or PhD in labour economics, industrial relations, international relations or similar.
  • Extensive experience in international organizations at a senior managerial level with significant track record in labour related human rights and international labour standards.
  • Well versed in partnership building within international organizations (ILO, UN in particular).
  • As IOE is part of the ILO constituents, deep understanding of ILO’s functioning, processes, mechanisms and committees is a strong plus.
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of the role of employers’ organisations and their interactions within the UN ecosystem and with workers’ organisations (trade unions) and governments.
  • Ability to work across a range of policy areas within the international labour standards framework.
  • Excellent in team management skills.
  • Proven negotiation skills and solid network within the international organization landscape, in particular the ILO.
  • Well-developed political understanding and sensitivity to interact with government officials and representatives of international organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and ideally also in French. Good understanding of other languages is a plus.

  • Starting date: ASAP
  • Based in Geneva
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally.
  • Full-time employment of five days (40 hours) per week
  • Duration: permanent contract
