Description

Human Rights House Foundation seeks a Human Rights Officer with a specific focus on supporting HRHF´s work in Eastern Europe and Caucasus. Human Rights Officer will join House Development and Support team at HRHF and have primary responsibility to support Human Rights Houses and their member organisations in Eastern Europe and Caucasus and oversee sub-grants implementation. The work will involve close cooperation with the partners and other international organisations.

Applicants should have experience in working to support civil society, including through grants, in Eastern European countries within the field of human rights. This position will be located in one of HRHF´s locations (Oslo, Geneva, Brussels or Tbilisi) and report to the Head of House Development and Support.

Responsibilities

  • Support established Human Rights Houses and other partners to ensure sustainable national and regional networks.
  • Facilitate sharing of knowledge and expertise within the network.
  • Participate in assessment of incoming grants applications from partners, as requested.
  • Provide effective oversight of sub-grants implementation, including monitoring implementation, evaluating progress and providing technical support to partners.
  • Represent organisation, as directed, in various country coordination, protection coordination, other externally facing events with other international organisations, other stakeholders and donors.
  • Organise and implement cross-border events with the partners, including capacity building events.
  • Contribute to HRHF´s fundraising efforts.
  • Monitor relevant country trends and developments and provide regular updates to HRHF and partner staff.
  • Contribute to the development of communication materials aimed at promoting the work of the programme.
  • Contribute to and support broader organisational priorities and initiatives, as assigned.

Qualifications/skills/knowledge

  • Commitment to advancing human rights with a locally-led mindset.
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience;
  • Knowledge of political and social situation in Eastern Europe and Caucasus; knowledge of political and social situation in other regions where HRHF works is an advantage.
  • Experience in working directly with local partners, including supporting them through grants and capacity building activities
  • Experience working in multi-cultural environment
  • Strong communications skills including writing and speaking;
  • Fluency in English required and in Russian desirable; fluency in another Eastern Partnership country language is an advantage;

Other

This is a 2-year position with an opening for extension. Work authorisation in Europe and ability to travel internationally is required.  Starting date as soon as possible.
