IT and Online Systems Developer (100%)

Globethics.net is an international non-profit, non-governmental foundation with its Head Office in Geneva, Switzerland and partners on all continents. It is a global network of individuals and institutions interested in applied ethics with ethics in higher education as its vision. Through its global digital library on ethics Globethics.net contributes to improving access to knowledge resources in ethics. In addition, it facilitates collaborative web-based research, conferences, online publishing, e-learning and active sharing of information and collaboration. Globethics.net aims at strengthening global common values as well as respecting ethical contextual diversity.

Globethics.net is looking for a person to take up a key position in the Finance and Support Services department. The IT and Online Systems Developer serves Globethics.net with a range of tasks related to the development and management of the Globethics.net website and online platforms together with team members, including the learning management system, the website with its community of Globethics.net registered participants, the digital repository, online event platform, project-related websites and technical support.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review, develop and implement the Globethics.net IT Strategy;
  • Identify and implement sustainable and cost-effective IT solutions, especially with regard to a CRM, e-commerce and online learning;
  • Software programme development and testing;
  • Monitor and resolve issues in deployed systems (Liferay, Moodle, DSpace, etc.)
  • Coordination with suppliers (IT service providers, servers, etc.), and monitoring of deliverables against contractual agreements;
  • Regular evaluations and reporting to the Management Team;
  • Perform day to day operations tasks to ensure deployed systems stay up (backups, log reading, purging);
  • Data cleansing and manipulation to ensure data integrity in Globethics.net platforms;
  • Continuous improvement of the Globethics.net deployed systems functionality and user experience
  • Provide Globethics.net staff training and support on the different platforms, especially with regards to the CRM;
  • Seek out and ensure that best practice is met and applied;
  • Manage technical matters and coordinate with suppliers (development, hosting, online marketing, news services, etc.); and
  • Other duties as assigned

Note that the description is open for future developments and tasks of Globethics.net. It will be specified and can be modified in the Annual Programme of Globethics.net or whenever appropriate.

Place of work

This position is open for candidates working on a mandate basis abroad or as an employee based at the Globethics.net Head Office in Geneva, Switzerland. Those wishing to apply as an employee would be required to be resident in the Geneva region and to have a valid work permit.

Experience required

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in in web content management, strong abilities in programming and strong analytical and communications skills.

Languages

  • English (mother tongue) is essential
  • Other languages (e.g. French, German, Spanish, etc.) would be an advantage

Education:

  • A first level university degree in computer science, communication systems, information systems or related field.
  • Additional training in software applications related to web content and online systems management would be an asset

Knowledge and skills:

  • Previous experience on implementation a CRM and e-commerce software
  • Good knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS) development and support, especially Liferay and/or Drupal
  • Master HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and Python
  • Multitasking and ability to prioritise
  • Consistently approaches work with energy, dynamism, creativity and a constructive attitude
  • The ability to solve problems related to information architecture
  • Ability to research, synthesise and gather information from various sources
  • Able to work on own initiative in a responsive and timely way
  • Willingness to take responsibility and ownership of the work entrusted
  • Flexible and efficient
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to build reliable and trusted relationships within the various functions of the organisation
