 Background

The Global Survivors Fund (GSF) was launched in October 2019 by Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize laureates 2018. Its mission is to enhance access to reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the globe, thus responding to a gap long identified by survivors. GSF acts to provide interim reparative measures in situations where states or other parties are unable or unwilling to meet their responsibilities. GSF advocates for duty bearers as well as the international community to develop reparations programmes. It also guides states and civil society by providing expertise and technical support for designing reparations programmes. GSF’s survivor-centric approach is the cornerstone of its work.

Role Summary

The intern will be responsible for the Webmaster and Social Media Officer in her daily work, under the supervision of the Head of Communications, both on institutional and programmes-based communications.

In particular, the intern’s main tasks will be to support GSF in further developing its social media strategies; to draft content for social media and for publication on GSF’s website; to contribute to the preparatory work on various GSF projects (events, brochures, audio-visual materials); and to assist GSF in its overall communication strategy.

Intern’s responsibilities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following activities:

• Help in the daily operational work on GSF’s social media (Twitter, Facebook); expanding GSF’s other media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn); design and draft posts and tweets for social media in an autonomous way;
• Keep GSF’s list of handles updated and regularly liaise with partners and NGOs for increasing traffic on GSF various platforms;
• Help develop and maintain media contact list, in addition to updating and organising the general contact list for GSF,
• Assist in the re-organisation of GSF’s Communications Site on Sharepoint;
• Contribute to drafting, editing and formatting content for communications purposes (summary of reports on conflict-related sexual violence, updates for Board meetings, articles and newsletters etc.);
• Support the establishment of a mailing system;
• Monitor news and press on topics related to conflict-related sexual violence;
• Support the Communications Team with any other task, as needed.

Requirements

• Proof of enrollment in an academic program during the internship at GSF;
• Excellent organisational skills;
• Strong skills in community management, incl. on the design and implementation of social media campaigns;
• Ability to identify priorities, work autonomously and as part of a team as a proactive member;
• Attention to details and critical eye in terms of quality;
• Very good time management and ability to work under tight deadlines;
• Proven interest in a wide range of topics ranging from human rights issues, including gender, women’s and victims’ rights, to transitional justice, conflict-related sexual violence, survivor-centric approach, reparations and other forms of redress;
• Full proficiency in English and French.
