As part of its growing peacebuilding and stabilization engagement in fragile and conflict-affected countries, Coginta is looking for junior/mid-level (3 to 8 years of experience) and senior (9+ years of experience) experts with relevant expertise and experience in the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) nexus operationalization, conflict-sensitivity, resilience programming and fragility assessments.
Coginta is a non-governmental, apolitical, and non-religious organisation recognised as serving the public interest. It specialises in judicial and security governance, conflict prevention and social cohesion. Its objective is to support host governments in strengthening judicial and security institutions in accordance with the norms and principles of the rule of law and to contribute to the prevention of violence, insecurity, and crime, thereby promoting an environment conducive to stability, peace, and socio-economic development.
Coginta has its headquarters in Geneva and maintains country offices in Burkina Faso, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Mozambique, Niger and Senegal.
1. PROFILE
Interested candidates should demonstrate in-country experience and practical knowledge in one or several areas listed below.
Thematic expertise (HDP Nexus, conflict sensitivity, violence and fragility)
- Coordination and partnership development to support HDP nexus implementation in protracted crises and conflict-affected settings.
- Risk assessments and risk mitigation strategies in conflict-affected countries.
- HDP nexus programming and participatory decision-making.
- Local stakeholder engagement in peacebuilding and community resilience efforts.
- Conflict sensitivity and do-no-harm approaches in programming.
- Peacebuilding and prevention strategies within humanitarian and development responses to address conflict drivers.
- Linkages between the HDP nexus and durable solutions to internal displacement.
- Natural resource management and climate-related vulnerabilities and risks.
- Monitoring and impact assessment frameworks for HDP nexus programming.
Skills and experience
- Experience in conducting research and analysis on the HDP nexus.
- Experience in multi-stakeholder coordination, analysis, planning and programming.
- Experience in concrete HDP nexus programming, implementation, financing and resource mobilization, in collaboration with local stakeholders.
- Capacity for conceptual and strategic analysis, as well as the formulation of strategic advice, including the ability to analyse and articulate “nexus thinking” around complex issues that require a coordinated response from bilateral and multilateral agencies and partners.
- Experience in the areas of peacebuilding, stabilization, conflict prevention and preparedness, social cohesion, and the protection of civilians.
- Knowledge of institutional mandates, policies and guidelines related to humanitarian affairs, sustainable development and peacebuilding.
- Knowledge and experience in forced displacement as well as knowledge of relevant protection and humanitarian standards.
- Understanding of the multidimensional nature of fragility (economic, environmental, human, political, security and societal), conflict and violence.
- A willingness to work in conflict-affected and fragile contexts.
- Sound political acumen and a capacity to multi-task.
- Excellent English and French communication and analytical skills (written, verbal, interpersonal and intercultural); additional languages (Spanish and Arabic) are an asset.
- Ability to draft strategic notes, work well with others and to build consensus on complex issues.
- Good partnership skills with a wide range of actors and the ability to develop productive working relationships.
