Background

The Global Survivors Fund (GSF) was launched in October 2019 by Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize laureates 2018. Its mission is to enhance access to reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the globe, thus responding to a gap long identified by survivors. GSF acts to provide interim reparative measures in situations where states or other parties are unable or unwilling to meet their responsibilities. GSF advocates for duty bearers as well as the international community to develop reparations programmes. It also guides states and civil society by providing expertise and technical support for designing reparations programmes. GSF’s survivor-centric approach is the cornerstone of its work.

Role Summary

The intern will be responsible for supporting the Events and Publications Assistant, under the supervision of the Head of Communications in their daily work.

In particular, the intern’s main tasks will be to contribute to (i) managing the logistics, operations and administration of GSF’s planned events, workshops and conferences; (ii) supporting the review of various publications; and (iii) assisting GSF in its overall communications’ strategy.

Intern’s responsibilities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following activities:

  • Keep GSF’s communications calendar and distribution list up-to-date and liaise with the respective teams on a regular basis;
  • Assist the Events and Publications Assistant in organising events for GSF (including but not limited to searching for venues and service providers (AV, catering, interpretation, etc.), creating communication visuals (Save the Date, Agenda etc), mailing, etc.
  • Contribute to pre and post-event reporting (minutes, summaries, actions log);
  • Assist in the re-organisation of GSF’s Communications Site on Sharepoint;
  • Support the review of various publications (e.g. invitations, country reports and briefings, leaflets);
  • Contribute to the production of promotional materials (e.g. goodies, posters, banners, etc.);
  • Assist the Communications Team in producing Events and Publications guidelines.

Requirements

  • Proof of enrollment in an academic program during the internship at GSF;
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Skills in events’ planning and publications;
  • Proven experience in creating various types of visual content (knowledge of Canvas desired)
  • Ability to identify priorities, work autonomously and as part of a team;
  • Ability to work as a pro-active member of the team but also in autonomous manner;
  • Attention to details and critical eye in terms of quality;
  • Excellent time management and ability to work under tight deadlines;
  • Proven interest in a wide range of topics ranging from human rights issues, including gender, women’s and victims’ rights, to transitional justice, conflict-related sexual violence, survivor-centric approach, reparations and other forms of redress;
  • Full proficiency in English and French.
