We are currently looking for a global Shelter Assessment Specialist

  • Location: Geneva-based with up to 60% of missions

FUNCTIONS

Under the supervision of the REACH Senior Manager, the Shelter Assessment Specialist is responsible for improving the technical capacity of the organisation in shelter assessments and analysis. Through in-person deployments and remote support, the Specialist will help in improving quality of programmes related to shelter - across REACH country missions, work with country missions’ counterparts to identified issues, and design and implement guidelines and tools that address these same issues. The Specialist will also be responsible for capacity building in shelter both at country and global level, through training and mentoring, as well as external engagement and support to external stakeholders operating in this space.

OBJECTIVES

  • Improve scope and quality of shelter data collection and analysis
  • Provide technical advice and surge to country missions for shelter data collection and analysis and ensure activities in the field comply with global standards
  • Create guidance documents and tools based on best practices and global standards to facilitate shelter data collection and analysis
  • Leading research and development efforts to improve shelter data collection and analysis
  • Build the capacity of REACH staff in shelter data collection and analysis, through training design and delivery, including the enrolment of REACH staff into external trainings
  • Contribute to REACH Communities of Practice dealing with shelter data collection and analysis Strengthen REACH engagement with shelter partners
  • Act as Global Shelter Cluster (GSC) focal point for assessment, monitoring and evaluation – supporting national clusters and GSC with data collection and analysis
  • Support effective dissemination of shelter research findings, by producing media contents, delivering presentations, organizing ad hoc events.
  • Represent REACH at global events related to shelter data collection and analysis
  • Stay abreast of fundraising opportunity and support the designing and drafting of concept notes and proposals related to shelter data collection and analysis

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (architecture, economics, statistics, data science, sociology, etc).
  • Minimum 3 years (5 preferred) of experience in analysis, assessment, information management, monitoring and evaluation, or operational research.
  • Minimum 3 years (5 preferred) of field experience in complex humanitarian crises.
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian coordination architecture and mechanisms.
  • Fluent English and good command of another language (French, Spanish or Arabic).
  • Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time and with very short (72 hours) notice to crisis affectedareas.
  • Computer skills, including Excel, and statistical software such as R or STATA
  • Strong networking skills to build relationships with donors, UN agencies, INGOs, local partners
