Operating at the interface of science and policy, SI synthesizes research and connects thought leaders to decision-makers.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SI\u2019s work is focused on the UN system as a key catalyst for multilateral cooperation, which is necessary for humanity to flourish sustainably. Being embedded in international Geneva and the wider Swiss foreign policy community, SI supports Switzerland in its role as the global hub driving a scientific multilateralism focused on furthering universal values.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Operations Associate will support SI\u2019s mission with a broad range of activities. As SI grows, it will be increasingly important for us to put in place operational processes that allow us to expand sustainably and that enhance the team\u2019s productivity and wellbeing. Similarly, putting on well-planned events and communicating our activities will be increasingly important for us to fulfill our goals.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Operations Associate is a full-time, in-person position. It is one of 3-4 roles that we expect to hire for until the end of 2022. As such, it will play a key role in defining the organization\u2019s culture and processes as we grow.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Application deadline: 21. October 2022<\/span>\r\n<h3><strong>What this role will do<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is a dynamic role: we expect the applicant to be interested in taking the initiative in continually identifying new things that SI should be doing, and we\u2019re excited to hear new ideas.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Therefore the following should not be taken as an exhaustive list, but should instead give a good idea of the role\u2019s core responsibilities:<\/span>\r\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Operations (40%):<\/span><\/h4>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Team executive assistance<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Including helping team members with productivity processes, organizing travels and appointments, and assisting with emails<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Project management<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Team coordination<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Including organizing team trips, quarterly internal team retreats and weekly coordination meetings\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Office management<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Accounting, budgeting and financial modeling<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Salary calculation, payment infrastructure, insurance and employee benefits<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hiring and HR, including hiring process design<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Documentation of operational processes to improve team coordination and productivity<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Events (30%):<\/span><\/h4>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Event planning and management<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Including concept design, budgeting, location and food search, developing contingency plans, and partnership-building with local &amp; international events partners<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Organizing retreats for our academic and policy networks<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Coordinating the writing of briefings for events<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Communications (10%)<\/span><\/h4>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Writing monthly organizational updates for select partners<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Writing a quarterly newsletter for our broader network<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Copywriting and website updates<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">LinkedIn and Twitter updates<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other (10%)<\/span><\/h4>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Assisting the rest of the team in developing Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) systems<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contributing to models and assessments of SI\u2019s impact<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Helping SI in our career advice to students and young professionals<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Writing updates for SI\u2019s board and advisors<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Co-writing grant applications<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Co-running workshops and talks<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3><strong>What we expect<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The ideal candidate will be ambitious and eager to learn and develop themselves. You will have to be willing to move to Geneva, as we do not yet have the capacity for continuous remote work. We expect you to be motivated to stay for at least 3 years while we grow into a mature organization. As SI is young, you will have to show initiative, and demonstrate transparency and good communication to resolve conflicts and differences of opinion. We value the perspectives that come from operations, events and communications work and we expect the applicant to actively contribute to SI\u2019s strategy.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Below is an overview of the knowledge and skills we expect the ideal candidate to have:<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fluent English (bonus: proficient in French, B2 or above)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experience in operations management (especially in rapidly-growing organizations)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experience organizing and managing high-profile events<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experience leading teams<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Strong ability to prioritize between different tasks based on knowledge of organizational strategy<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Strong communication and writing skills (feel free to share writing samples)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Highly-organized: comfortable coordinating activities with a team using task management software<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Optimisation mindset: you\u2019re always looking for ways to improve processes<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clear-thinking and analytical<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experience working in a rapidly-evolving environment<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Desirable:<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experience with, or knowledge of, fundraising<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experience with, or knowledge of, impact-modelling, impact evaluation and red-teaming<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These aren\u2019t necessary conditions: as this is our first hiring round, we are not highly confident in our ability to predict the profile of the perfect candidate.
