Its mission is to help prevent, mitigate, and resolve armed conflict through dialogue and mediation. HD is currently looking for a:\r\n\r\n<strong>Deputy Director, Mediation Support and Policy (MESU)<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<strong>Based in Geneva, Switzerland<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<strong>Starting date: January 2023<\/strong>\r\n\r\nTo strengthen the effectiveness of HD\u2019s mission, the Mediation Support and Policy Unit (MESU) provides support on all aspects of HD\u2019s mediation work, including strategy and process design as well as assistance with evaluation and learning. MESU also engages with the wider mediation community on questions of policy and practice. The team, based in Geneva, ensures programmes are aligned with HD\u2019s peacemaking strategy as it evolves to meet the changing nature of conflicts.\r\n<h3><strong>Overall Purpose:<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nThe MESU Deputy Director will work closely with the MESU Director on all issues related to HD\u2019s strategy, support to operations, and thematic programmes. S\/he will coordinate MESU\u2019s work on M&amp;E, learning and policy outreach; supervise the development and implementation of global programmes and oversee the department\u2019s financial processes.\r\n<h3><strong>Key responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Support the Director in leading HD\u2019s efforts on quality assurance, promoting the strategic coherence and inclusivity of our programmes, and strengthening HD\u2019s institutional identity;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Coordinate the development and implementation of MESU core programmes and work plans, including on M&amp;E, learning, strategy, training and policy outreach;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Supervise the development and implementation of global thematic programmes by MESU, including on gender and inclusion, environmental peacemaking and organized crime;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Manage MESU\u2019s financial processes, including the development of budgets and forecasts;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensure that MESU is providing effective support to HD\u2019s operational teams;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Support innovation within MESU and across HD;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Contribute to reflections about conflict trends and peace mediation, with a view to help the mediation field better respond to current challenges;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Represent MESU and the Director in internal discussions and management issues, as needed;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Represent HD externally and with donors.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3><strong>Qualifications: <\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Post-graduate education in international relations, political science, social science, law or other relevant fields;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ten years of relevant professional experience, at both field and HQ level, on peace and security issues;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Experience in peace process design and mediation support, including quality assurance, learning processes and\/or risk management;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Experience in strategy formulation, programme management, and fundraising;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Strong understanding of trends in peace mediation as well as current international peace and security issues;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to communicate effectively across cultures and via remote means;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Fluency in English.
