Background<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\nThe Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(GANHRI) is the worldwide membership-based network of national human rights institutions (NHRIs).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nGANHRI promotes and strengthens NHRIs to be in compliance with the Paris Principles and provides leadership for the promotion and protection of human rights.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nGANHRI provides a framework for NHRIs to work together and cooperate at the international level. We coordinate a wide range of activities, including annual meetings, international conferences, networks, training and capacity building.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nGANHRI works in close partnership with the United Nations Human Rights Office \u2013 specifically with the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section (NIRMS) \u2013 and with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). We also work closely with the four regional networks of NHRIs, in Africa (NANHRI), the Americas (RINDHCA), the Asia Pacific (APF) and Europe (ENNHRI).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nGANHRI is registered in Switzerland as a not-for-profit association. Our Head Office is located in Geneva at the Palais des Nations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n

Accreditation<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\r\nTo be effective in their work to promote and protect human rights,\u00a0NHRIs must be credible and independent.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0<\/span>Paris Principles<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(\u2018Principles relating to the status of NHRIs\u2019) set out internationally agreed minimum standards that NHRIs must meet to be considered independent.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nGANHRI,<\/span>\u202f<\/span>through its\u00a0<\/span>Sub-Committee on Accreditation<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(SCA), is responsible for reviewing and accrediting NHRIs by reference to the Paris Principles.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe accreditation process is a peer-review mechanism\u00a0<\/span>undertaken by GANHRI member NHRIs from each of the four regions: Africa, Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe.<\/span>\u00a0This process is supported by the UN Human Rights Office, which serves as the SCA Secretariat and by the observers, which are representatives of the regional networks\u2019 secretariats and the GANHRI Head Office.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nGANHRI, together with the SCA Secretariat and regional networks has been continuously working on strengthening the accreditation process. Through this ongoing improvement journey, the accreditation process is maximising its legitimacy, effectiveness, rigour, and transparency.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n

About the position<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\r\nThis assignment in undertaken to support implementation\u00a0<\/span>of the<\/span>\u00a0newly adopted GANHRI\u00a0<\/span>Strategic Plan 2023-2027<\/span><\/a>\u00a0which identifies in its Strategic Objective 1 for GANHRI to support<\/span>\u00a0\u201c<\/span><\/i><\/b>the establishment, strengthening, accreditation, and capacity development of NHRIs, and their protection when exercising their mandate.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nFurthermore, implementation of Strategic Objective 4 of the Strategic Plan should ensure that GANHRI operates as \u201c<\/span>a professional, effective, well-governed and efficient organization<\/span><\/i>\u201d. This requires strengthening GANHRI\u00b4s governance and organisational and institutional structure to achieve its strategic goals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the assignment is supported by the EU funded project\u00a0<\/span>Capacity Building of National Human Rights Institutions \u2013 Phase 3<\/span><\/i>\u00a0(NHRI.EU.3). The project\u2019s overall objective is to: Enhance the role of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) and their global and regional networks in promoting and protecting the human rights of all individuals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe project is being implemented between 2022 and 2027.
