Projects and\r\nworkstreams led by the Communications Specialist build visibility of GCERF and its mission of\r\npreventing violent extremism, enhance donor and partner perception of the organisation, support\r\nachievement of GCERF\u2019s resource mobilization targets, and strengthen the organisation\u2019s brand\r\nidentity.\r\n\r\nThe Communications Specialist leads assigned communications projects and\/ or areas of work to\r\nadvance GCERF\u2019s profile and reputation, and contributes expertise to the development of GCERF\u2019s\r\norganizational narrative and messaging, while tracking and adapting to the evolving donor\r\nlandscape, media interest, and political dynamics.\r\n<h3><strong>Principal accountabilities and ownership<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n1. <strong>Communication materials and content development<\/strong>: Responsible for developing a wide\r\nrange of communications materials as assigned by the Communications Manager. These\r\nmay include for example: press releases, publications, social media assets, written or\r\naudiovisual story content based on field reporting, op-eds, fundraising campaign material,\r\nnewsletters and event promotion materials.\r\n\r\n2. <strong>Media relations and outreach<\/strong>: Monitors relevant global news media coverage to\r\nunderstand trends and perspectives, in order to effectively position GCERF through media\r\noutreach. Maintains existing media contact database, and seeks to build or nurture new\r\nbroadcast, digital and print news media relationships. As a shared responsibility with the\r\nCommunications Manager, seeks opportunities for media placement and interviews by\r\nGCERF spokespersons (headquarters leadership and in countries) to increase visibility of\r\nGCERF\u2019s work and mission.\r\n\r\n3. <strong>Country program content creation<\/strong>: Responsible for defining, planning and leading\r\nassigned field content-gathering trips to countries where GCERF funds projects. Leads all\r\nsubsequent phases of content creation, publication and promotion. Over time, helps to\r\nbuild a robust set of communications stories and raw materials to advance GCERF\u2019s\r\nvisibility and resource mobilization needs. Collaborates with other members of the\r\nCommunications team to refine GCERF\u2019s content archiving, in order to strengthen and\r\nstreamline use of available storytelling materials.\r\n\r\n4. <strong>Communications partnership with GCERF grantees<\/strong>: Acts as a focal point for GCERF\u2019s global\r\nnetwork of implementing partners in order to cultivate communications best practices,\r\nidentify synergies for materials, content sharing and digital amplification opportunities.\r\n\r\n5. <strong>Stakeholder events communications focal point<\/strong>: May be asked to act as Communications\r\nfocal point for key External Affairs or Programme Management Unit events, including media\r\nopportunities, content gathering during events and\/ or event promotion.\r\n\r\n6. <strong>Other duties as required by the Communications Manager.<\/strong>\r\n<h3><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<strong>Knowledge\/Experience\/Qualifications<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, international\r\nrelations, communications studies, digital marketing, or other field relevant to GCERF\u2019s work<\/li>\r\n \t<li>At least 5-7 years' experience in journalism, public information, digital communications, or\r\nrelated area<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Prior communications experience in support of an international not-for-profit organization<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Communications field experience will be considered a plus<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Technical skills<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Thorough knowledge and experience of written communications formats,\r\nconventions and writing style of international organizations with a global,\r\nmulticultural focus. Depth of experience drafting press releases, documents, talking\r\npoints, presentations, editorial content, and speeches.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Strong understanding of the global media landscape and emerging digital trends<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Knowledge of and interest in global political\/ geopolitical trends<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Desirable: some familiarity with global trends in counter-terrorism and\r\npeacebuilding efforts<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Field content gathering and production experience; ability to work with a high\r\ndegree of independence as a content-gathering lead and field producer<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Excellent written storytelling and editing skills<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Solid experience conducting media outreach<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\u2022 Languages\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Required: fluency in written and spoken English<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Desirable: strong French proficiency, native level<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Advantageous: other languages important to GCERF\u2019s portfolio: Arabic, Russian, Portuguese, Kiswahili for example<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\u2022 Desirable skills: Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign and\r\nPhotoshop) and WordPress (web)\r\n<h3><strong>Personal skills and attributes<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Effective communication skills: verbal, written, audiovisual<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Creativity, curiosity, interest in innovative ways to communicate<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Sound judgement; ability to work with a high degree of independence with care for\r\nthorough processes<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A team-player professional approach, interested in mutual success of colleagues\r\nand projects<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Alignment with GCERF\u2019s values<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Flexibility, resourcefulness to adapt to challenges<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3><strong>Interdependencies<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<strong>What this role must provide for key working relationships<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<strong>Communications Manager (primary)<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Solid and efficient project management and delivery of assigned projects, including\r\nproject budget oversight<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Regular media outreach and network growth, leading to expanded media visibility\r\nof GCERF over time<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Sound judgement with respect to communications recommendations and\r\npositioning of GCERF<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Production of high-value communication material: written, audiovisual, digital<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Innovative thinking and creativity, supporting development of GCERF\u2019s\r\ncommunications function.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Insights and support for production of donor- related communications products\r\nand activities.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Communications Associate (primary)<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Collaborate and provide some coaching and guidance to the Associate, in\r\nalignment with the Manager<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>External Affairs team (primary)<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Successfully deliver communications components for key stakeholder events as\r\nassigned by the Communications Manager, in consultation with the External Affairs Head.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Portfolio management team (secondary)<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Close collaboration with Country Managers for any communications initiatives\r\nundertaken in countries (content, events, meetings).<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Within designated authority, responsive to needs of the Portfolio Management Unit\r\nfor training needs, or support to grantees\u2019 communications practices.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Performance &amp; Impact team (secondary)<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Close collaboration with the P&amp;I team to ensure accuracy, strategic messaging of\r\ncommunications materials related to performance data<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>External services providers (secondary)<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Management of procurement processes to identify and select external suppliers as\r\nneeded.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Management of collaborative process with external freelancers or creative agencies\r\nas needed.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3><strong>General information:<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Our offices are located in Geneva, Switzerland<\/li>\r\n \t<li>GCERF offers competitive salaries and benefits package.
