Description
Action for Development is an NGO with offices in Geneva Switzerland and Kabul Afghanistan. Our organisation aims to ensure that funding for health and community development programs is spent in ways that maximize its impact, partnering with local organizations at the grassroots level. The main focus areas of our programs are strategic health facilities management, maternal, neonatal, and child health services expansion, family planning, water, sanitation and hygiene, women's empowerment, capacity building, and education. In 2014, Action for development was granted consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Duties & Responsibilities – Health Specialist
- Assist with data collection and analysis for public health-related programmes in Afghanistan.
- Develop quarterly, bi-annual and annual reports on the performance and results of public health programmes.
- Record and consolidate programme information and prepare presentations, when necessary, to showcase the achievements of health-related programmes.
- Contribute to the development of content for annual organisational reports, conferences, brochures, websites and other communication materials.
- Identify areas for improvement to enhance the performance of the Comprehensive Health Centre (CHC) in Kabul and support the development and replication of effective approaches.
- Prepare and submit requests for proposals, Concept Notes and funding applications, as required.
- Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with agencies, organisations, donors and partners involved in public health care.
- Contribute to AfD’s organisational mission and goals through participation in events, meetings, conferences, networking activities and fundraising events.
- Conduct monthly CHC report verification, ensuring the completeness and consistency of information received from the field.
- Conduct and contribute to demand and cost modelling related to CHC activities and services.
- Liaise regularly with the health facility in Kabul and relevant AfD team members to support the CHC field team, including reviewing actions arising from the monthly Community Leaders meetings.
- Review and update, where necessary, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Descriptions for CHC functions.
- Conduct medicines review and verification, including relevant documentation and information provided by the CHC.
- Support external relations with donors and partners, including organisations that donate medicines and other health-related supplies.
- Support and undertake fundraising activities for the CHC and contribute to securing funding for its ongoing operational and outreach activities.
- Participate in other AfD health-related projects and activities as required.
