About Action for Development

Action for Development is an NGO with offices in Geneva, Switzerland, and Kabul, Afghanistan. Our organisation aims to ensure that funding for health and community development programs is spent in ways that maximize its impact, partnering with local organizations at the grassroots level. The main focus areas of our programs are strategic health facilities management, maternal, neonatal, and child health services expansion, family planning, water, sanitation and hygiene, women's empowerment, capacity building, and education. In 2014, Action for Development was granted consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Responsibilities of the Online English Language Teacher

Action for Development is seeking a committed volunteer who can support English language learning for youth in Afghanistan through online teaching. The ideal candidate will be motivated to contribute to education and empowerment initiatives in a challenging context.

Specific activities:

  • Deliver online English language sessions to youth in Afghanistan
  • Follow up on the online system being implemented by the organisation, use the different schemes to prepare and adapt teaching materials according to students’ levels and as per the online material already provided
  • Facilitate interactive and engaging learning sessions to help students with their questions
  • Support students in developing speaking, reading, and writing skills using the material in the system
  • Encourage participation and create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Use online tools such as Microsoft Teams or Google Drive to share materials and conduct sessions

Required Qualifications:

  • Good command of English (teaching or tutoring experience is an asset)
  • Background in education, languages, or related fields is a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Reliable, organized, and motivated
  • Interest in humanitarian work and education
  • Native English Speaker or with a C1 English degree

Terms of the Contract:

  • Please note that this is an unpaid, part-time volunteer position
  • Time Commitment: approximately 4 hours per week (1 hour/day, four days per week), fully remote with an additional 4 hours engagement with NGO education program
  • Time will be preferably agreed with the availability of the teacher online and students ability to connect at that given time
  • Online teaching via Microsoft Teams or shared platforms such as Google Drive
