Description
The International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage (ALIPH) is a Swiss law foundation based in Geneva, benefiting from the privileges and immunities of an international organization. The main global fund dedicated to the protection of heritage in conflict, post-conflict, or crisis zones, ALIPH supports those who, on the ground, take concrete measures to protect or restore museums, sites, monuments, or intangible heritage, in the most challenging contexts. Since its creation in Geneva in 2017, ALIPH has supported 550 projects in over 50 countries. The Foundation carries out its mission thanks to the support of its nine member states (France, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, China, Morocco, Luxembourg, Cyprus, and Uzbekistan), its three private donors, as well as about a dozen other funding partners.
Main Responsibilities
Under the authority of the Executive Director, the Director of Programs:
- Leads a team currently composed of seven project managers;
- Provides ALIPH with scientific, technical, and policy expertise in the protection of heritage in conflict, post-conflict, or crisis zones, as well as in the fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural property;
- Contributes to the definition of ALIPH’s support programs for heritage in the relevant areas, including calls for projects and emergency action plans, in close coordination with the Director of Development;
- Contributes to defining and supervises the selection processes for projects funded by ALIPH;
- Manages the online grant platform established by ALIPH;
- Contributes to the proper implementation of heritage protection projects and initiatives to combat illicit trafficking in cultural property supported by ALIPH;
- Collaborates with the Director of Finance and Operations to define and implement project lifecycle management processes and tools;
- Promotes ALIPH internationally by developing its network;
- Contributes, with their team and in collaboration with the Director of Communications and Partnerships, to drafting communication materials (website, press releases, etc.) related to ALIPH-supported projects;
- Participates, whenever necessary, in international conferences and meetings within their areas of expertise;
- Prepares meetings of the Scientific Committee and actively contributes to the preparation of meetings of the ALIPH Foundation Board;
- Participates in defining and implementing ALIPH’s development strategy, in collaboration with the Director of Development;
- Carries out other related duties and provides strategic support as needed at the request of the Executive Director.
Experience and Skills
- Advanced university degree in a relevant field (Art History, Archaeology, Architecture, Heritage, Cultural Management, Political Science, International Relations, Program Management, etc.);
- A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience, including at least four (4) years in a leadership position (within an international organization, NGO, foundation, public administration, or internationally oriented company);
- Proven experience in managing a team of more than 5 people, with a strong team spirit;
- Demonstrated experience in grant and/or project management;
- Scientific, technical, and/or policy expertise in heritage protection;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong sense of engagement with others;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Knowledge of international relations and geopolitics;
- Ability to work in an international environment and willingness to travel abroad, including to sensitive areas;
- Strong sense of professionalism and diplomacy;
- Flexibility and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment;
- Excellent command of both English and French. Knowledge of an additional language, particularly Arabic, is an asset.
