Convention against Torture Initiative (CTI)

Description

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Communications Adviser to join our team at 40% capacity. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and executing CTI's communication strategy, enhancing our visibility, and promoting our mission to eliminate torture globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communication Strategy Development:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with CTI’s mission, goals, and objectives.
    • Identify and leverage opportunities to increase awareness and visibility of CTI’s work among key stakeholders, including governments, international organizations, civil society, and the general public.
  • Content Creation and Management:
    • Draft, edit, and manage high-quality content for various communication channels, including press releases, newsletters, website content, and social media platforms.
    • Draft and coordinate CTI’s Annual Report, and coordinate the development and publication of other CTI reports and publications.
    • Ensure that all communications materials are consistent with CTI’s branding and messaging guidelines.
  • Media Relations:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with media channels in the human rights and international law sectors as appropriate.
    • Prepare and distribute press releases, statements, and media kits to promote CTI’s initiatives and events.
  • Digital Communications:
    • Manage and update CTI’s website and social media accounts, ensuring timely and relevant content is shared.
    • Monitor and analyze the performance of digital communications, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Support the organization’s efforts to engage with key stakeholders through targeted communication campaigns and outreach activities.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of events, webinars, and conferences, ensuring effective communication before, during, and after these events.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • A degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years of experience in a communications role, preferably within an international organization, governmental role, NGO, or similar environment.
    • Proven track record in developing and executing communication strategies and campaigns.
    • Experience in media relations, digital communications, and content creation.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (fluency in other UN languages is an asset).
    • Proficiency in using communication tools, including content management systems, social media platforms, and analytics software.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
    • Familiarity with international human rights issues would be of added value.

Reporting:

The Communications Adviser will report to the CTI Head and work closely with the team.
