At DCAF, we envision a world where democratic sector governance advances sustainable peace and development and human dignity for all.
Our mission is to advance the security of all people through nationally owned, inclusive, and participatory security sector reforms based on international norms and good practices.
DCAF contributes to making peace and development more sustainable by assisting partner states and international actors supporting these states, to improve the governance of their security sector through inclusive and participatory reforms. It creates innovative knowledge products, promotes norms and good practices, provides legal and policy advice and supports capacity‐building of both state and non‐state security sector stakeholders.
The professional development and training (PDT) team, which is part of the Research and Training (RT) entity, focusses on training design and delivery, professional development advice and mentoring at the request, and for the benefit, of our partners and DCAF colleagues.
For our PDT team, we are looking for a motivated and experienced individual to be our next Junior Project Officer (Training)
Location: Geneva (with some travel)
- Starting date: 1st June 2026
- Duration: 12 month fixed-term contract, with possibility of extension.
- Work rate: 80% (4 days / week)
The role
Reporting to the Deputy Head of RT, the Junior Project Officer will mainly contribute to the design, organisation and delivery of training activities on SSG/R related themes.
Key areas of operation
- Training organization and logistical support - contribute to the ongoing design, development and oversight of both in-person and online training courses on SSG/R and related topics in multiple languages; providing logistical support when needed to organize the training
- E-Learning development– contribute to developing and updating e-learning courses and online materials
- Material development – contribute to updating and producing high quality training materials in cooperation with the programme manager and the facilitators.
- Facilitation – willingness to participate in the delivery of training sessions alongside, and in support of, the programme manager and facilitators, through the facilitation of assignments and interactive exercises. It is expected that the JPO will develop more facilitation skills in the course of the assignment.
- Project management and administration: contribute to the different aspects of project management, including preparation of supporting documents, after-action reviews, evaluation systems, evaluation reports etc…
Your experience
- MA/MSc in International relations, security studies, political sciences, conflict studies, development or related field
- 0-3 years of relevant work experience, with a connection to training
- Some training and/or facilitation experience
- Some experience in working in an international environment, including with international bilateral partners and multilateral organisations
Your competencies
Essential:
- Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite
- Public speaking, presentation and facilitation skills
- Project management skills
- General SSR and SSG knowledge or a related theme (security, human rights, rule of law, democratization)
- Ability to design evaluation surveys and to contribute to MEAL policy
- Flexibility and hands-on approach
- Diplomatic sensitivity
- Fluent in English and ideally a working knowledge of French (B2-level minimum).
Desired :
- Knowledge of adult learning methodology
- Knowledge of elearning software, such as Easygenerator equivalent
- Knowledge of interactive training tools, such as mural/miro, moodle, mentimeter…
- Ability to design training courses and training sessions
- Graphic design skills (for powerpoints and for elearning)
