Description

Franciscans International is an international non-governmental organization, with general consultative status at the United Nations, working for the promotion and protection of human rights. Since its establishment in 1989, FI has used advocacy as a tool to combat and address human rights abuses. FI relies on the expertise and first-hand information of a large network of partners, including Franciscans working with the most marginalized and disadvantaged individuals and groups in societies. From its offices in Geneva and New York, FI works together with grassroots movements and national and international civil society organizations to advocate for structural changes addressing the root causes of injustice. FI promotes human rights at the heart of all policies and processes in the area of development, environment and peace.

Job description:

  • Assisting with preparations and monitoring of the UN Human Rights Council, UPR and Treaty Body sessions;
  • Assisting in drafting and proof-reading reports and documents to various UN human rights mechanisms;
  • Contributing to on-going FI research projects;
  • Providing support in the organization of workshops and trainings;
  • Providing administrative and logistical assistance (visas, flights, hotels, etc.)
  • Any other assistance to the advocacy team.

Candidate profile and other requirements:

  • Fluency in English, both written and oral. Fluency in Spanish and/or French and/or Portuguese will be considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in reporting, analysis, and synthesis;
  • Some knowledge of the UN human rights mechanisms;
  • Good organization skills and ability to work under pressure;
  • Able to adapt to various situations (flexibility and adaptability in a multicultural environment), highly motivated and dynamic;
  • Capable of working both autonomously and in a team;
  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate program at the time of application in one of the following fields: human rights, international relations, international law, or international development;
  • Valid Swiss permit for the internship’s period.

  • Monetary compensation (700 CHF per month if full time).

To note:

  • Location: FI office in Geneva (37-39 rue de Vermont)
  • Working time: 37.5 hours a week for a full time position
