Organisation:

Mercy Hands Europe (MHEU) is an international non-profit based in Geneva, Switzerland, since 2019. Our mission is to empower vulnerable populations in disaster-affected areas, including Iraq, Syria, and Ethiopia, through sustainable projects and partnerships. We focus on education, protection, health, justice, agriculture, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), emergency response, and livelihoods.

Position:

We are seeking a Project Assistant Intern to join our Education Department. The intern will manage the "Empowering Ethiopian Youth with Universal Access to Digital Information" project, which aims to bridge the digital divide for youth in Hawassa, Southern Ethiopia. This initiative will establish a digital library and provide essential educational resources and broadband internet access. The role involves overseeing project implementation, ensuring effective resource distribution, and promoting digital literacy and academic growth.

  • Location: Geneva, Switzerland
  • Duration: 6 months (Part-time: Minimum of 25 hours/week in the office)
  • Starting Date: ASAP
  • Compensation: 200 CHF/month

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Executive Director and Programme Coordinator.
  • Launch and manage new and ongoing agricultural projects.
  • Identify funding opportunities and develop project proposals.
  • Coordinate fundraising campaigns and manage donor relations.
  • Organise meetings and events related to agricultural initiatives.
  • Manage social networks and represent MHEU in relevant forums.

Internship Objectives:

By the end of the internship, you will gain experience in:

  • Project management within the education sector in humanitarian and development contexts.
  • Remote support of local education partners.
  • Grants management, social media, and communication with donors.
  • Understanding of educational needs and interventions in Ethiopia.

Requirements & Competencies:

  • Enrolled in a Master’s degree program related to education, development, or humanitarian aid.
  • Strong interest in the aforementioned project.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and French (C1-C2); knowledge of Arabic and/or German is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office, social media management, and Google Drive.
  • Knowledge of project management and fundraising is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and within an international, multicultural team.
