Context & mission
Médecins Sans Frontières is an independent, international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to people in need, people affected by natural or man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and without regard to race, religion, creed or political affiliation (MSF Charter).
The RLO is a logistics referent detached to operations to assist the emergency Cell team in all its mission support activities. Their primary role is that of a technical advisor, but their experience and understanding of operations make him a key member of the team, involved in the management of operations and, in particular, in overseeing security management during missions.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- As a member of the team, helps define objectives and operational strategy while ensuring technical and logistical feasibility.
- He collaborates with the Cell Supply Referent to ensure the smooth operation of mission supply.
- Oversees technical and logistical activities and ensures compliance with logistical fundamental.
- Anticipates the logistical and technical challenges that missions may face.
- Promotes and facilitates the implementation of technical activities aimed at improving the impact of medical programs on beneficiaries (EHA, distribution, construction, etc.)
- Validates the technical aspects of the risk reduction policy.
- He or she is responsible for ensuring the availability, implementation, and management of all necessary technical and logistical resources, as well as the associated human resources. He or she ensures compliance with non-medical technical policies and quality standards, as well as the availability and reliability of articles and systems.
- In support of RP and ARP, contributes to the analysis, monitoring, and implementation of security and risk mitigation measures.
- Defines the objectives for the emergency response pool’s logistics teams and assists with their recruitment.
- Is responsible for defining EPREP logistics strategies in line with operational objectives, as well as for managing the MSF Logistics emergency stock in Bordeaux, Dubai, and Kampala.
Your profile
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training is a plus
- Experience in technical project management and leadership
- Extensive experience as a Logistics Coordinator, including several assignments in emergency situations
Experience
- At least 3 years of experience working with MSF in logistics management or coordination roles.
- Experience as a Head of Mission, field coordinator, or emergency coordinator is strongly recommended
- Several successful experiences in OCG emergency logistics.
- One or more experiences in the initial phases of missions or emergency projects.
- Extensive knowledge of epidemic response mechanisms; population movements; and surgical and trauma care activities.
- Mastery of MSF OCG tools.
- Strong knowledge of MSF logistique.
- Mastery of logistics fundamentals.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of MSF Switzerland. Fluency in both English and French is required for this position (oral and written).
- Spanish is a plus
Skills/ Technical competencies
- Strong capacity to analyze emergency situations and propose logistics strategies.
- A good understanding of the political dynamics of conflict and emergencies situation.
- Have good communication skills.
- Ability to plan and implement logistical support for emergency projects.
- Experience in coaching and team leadership is required.
- Experience in managing difficult security situations.
Personal Abilities/Qualities
- High availability (deployment to emergency sites within 24 to 48 hours)
- High flexibility in work schedules
- Ability to manage a team and delegate, analytical skills, strong negotiation skills, organizational skills, ability to handle stress, flexibility, resourcefulness, ability to work with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, ability to make quick decisions and take swift action, open-mindedness, curiosity.
Terms of employment
- Full-time position 100% (40h/week)
- Mandated contract: 3 year-term, renewable once
- Working place: Geneva, Switzerland, with frequent travel to the field
- Ideal start date: As Soon As Possible
- Gross annual salary (for 100%): from CHF 102’180.- to CHF 116’484.- (salary commensurate with equivalent experience and internal salary grid)
- Paid vacation: 25 days per year, prorate temporis, plus any Swiss public holidays falling within the contract period.
- Pension plan: pension contribution covered 3/4 by MSF, 1/4 by staff member.
- Relocation support available for eligible candidates.
