Context & mission
Médecins Sans Frontières is an independent, international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to people in need, people affected by natural or man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and without regard to race, religion, creed or political affiliation (MSF Charter).
The MSF movement is built around 5 operational centers supported by 24 sections and offices worldwide. MSF Operational Center Geneva (MSF OCG) is one of these centers.
The Philanthropy Team Coordinator is a key position in the Philanthropy Unit. S/he is responsible for raising funds from some of our top major donors and is accountable for the results of his/her team. As member of the Philanthropy management team, s/he contributes to designing MSF Switzerland’s philanthropy strategy and drives the implementation in the French part of Switzerland. He/she manages a team of experienced Philanthropy Advisors based in Geneva. He/she reports to the Head of Philanthropy and coordinates implementation with the Zurich-based teams and the functional leads.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Philanthropy Team Coordinator will play a critical role in:
Strategy and team management
- As member of the Philanthropy Management team, co-designs MSF Switzerland’s philanthropy strategy and annual plans of action
- Leads on implementation of the strategy and plan of actions in the Romandie
- Collaborates with the relevant philanthropy referents to align regional execution with donor-type strategies
- Drives results: accountable for the income target of his/her team (forecast and monitoring)
- Resource management: manages the expense budget and the time-allocation of the team
- People management: Leads and manages the team of Philanthropy Advisors for the Romandie area (recruitment, performance management, coaching, career support, overseeing activities and implementation of action plans, priority setting)
- Segment and manage his/her own donor pool (qualification, upgrading, segmenting) and guides and supports team members in the management of their donor pools
- Secures a consistent, high- quality donor experience and ensures coordination around Major Donor events in Geneva and other French-speaking cantons (priority setting in terms of donor events and other engagement opportunities)
- Ensures the team applies the philanthropy procedures (use of database, Gift Acceptance Policy, etc.)
Donor stewardship and reporting
- Manages relationships with several top major donors (one-to-one meetings, calls, presentations and other touchpoints to deepen relationships and understand donors’ philanthropic goals)
- Interacts with senior managers within MSF as well as field staff, with the aim of bringing donors closer to the organisation and our live-saving work
- Reports back to donors -in the most adequate form (in person meeting, email, telephone…) about impact and results and ensures excellent quality and timely submission of written reports
- Keeps donors informed about key humanitarian developments such as the changing humanitarian landscape
Donor solicitation
- Present and defend MSF’s case for support to foundations, corporates, individual major donors, cantons and municipalities in French speaking Switzerland
- Ensure that all project applications and proposals are of excellent quality and submitted on time
- Liaise with Writing Officers for the preparation of project proposals and grant applications to foundations, cantons and municipalities
Acquisition
- In collaboration with the team and the Prospect Researcher, proactively identifies and researches prospects, in particular foundations
- Approaches and converts new major donors
Others
- Contributes to the team spirit and cohesion in the Philanthropy Unit and the Communication and Fundraising Department of MSF Switzerland
- Contributes to learning and knowledge exchange with peers from other MSF sections
- Provides back-up to other managers upon request
Your profile
Education
- University degree in Business Management, Marketing, Communications, Political Science, Law, International Relations, Social Science or equivalent
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in relationship fundraising or in other fields of relationship management (stakeholder engagement, external relations, advocacy etc)
- Experience in people management
- Experience in working with MSF is a strong advantage
- Experience in and knowledge of the International Geneva ecosystem is a strong plus
Languages
- Mother-tongue equivalent French
- Excellent professional English
- German and/or Italian knowledge is a plus

Terms of employment
- Full-time position 100% (40h/week)
- Open ended contract
- Working place: Geneva, Switzerland
- Ideal start date: December 1st, 2025
- Gross annual salary (for 100%): from CHF 94’440.- to CHF 108’348.- (salary commensurate with equivalent experience and internal salary grid)
- Paid vacation: 25 days per year, prorate temporis, plus any Swiss public holidays falling within the contract period.
- Pension plan: pension contribution covered 3/4 by MSF, 1/4 by staff member.
- Relocation package if moving from a different country to Switzerland.
