Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organisation. We work with people affected by violent conflicts to enhance their security and dignity through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world’s response to conflict situations.
JOB SUMMARY
The main emphasis of this position is to manage and advance the organisation`s programme development and quality efforts. This includes the development of project proposals at the global level as well as supporting country programmes in developing and managing country-specific grants, especially new country programmes, smaller country programmes without designated programme development staff, and programmes that need temporary assistance. The second purpose of the position is to advance and streamline NP`s global (and country-specific) project cycle management processes and systems. Here the position functions as a bridge between the global programme and finance & operations team, and will ensure improved adherence to best practices in project cycle management as well as to compliance with donor rules and regulations. The third pillar of the position has a complementary purpose, ensuring that monitoring evaluation and learning is integrated within project cycle management efforts and systems. The position is not expected to cover the breadth and dept of Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Development and Quality Assurance
- Monitoring and coordinating (among NP country programmes) grant opportunities.
- Developing and/or leading global grant applications, serving as lead writer for concept notes/proposals, collection of supporting documents, supporting budget development.
- Monitoring production and submission of proposals and reports by country programmes, providing feedback, text editing, and code switching to meet the specific needs of different donors as needed.
- Supporting country programmes in their own project development and grant application efforts.
- Coordinating and/or supporting NP’s response to feedback and comments received from donors with relevant global and in-country staff.
- Coordinating budget development and donor compliance with global finance team and country programme or finance teams.
- Leading and/or supporting contract negotiations and amendments including no-cost/cost extensions, budget realignments and project revisions in coordination with relevant global and in-country staff. Providing training and coaching to project development staff in country programmes and develop guidelines as needed.
Project Cycle Management and Donor Compliance
- Monitoring project implementation and addressing concerns and complaints voiced by staff or donors in the management or reporting of grants.
- Coordinating the development or tailoring of grant-related supporting documents that do not yet exist or are insufficient.
- Managing and streamlining easy access to donor portals and funding platforms.
- Developing and/or streamlining internal processes and systems for programme-related data gathering and reporting (integrated into or aligned to salesforce).
- Supporting country programmes in streamlining their project cycles management processes and systems and developing guiding resources as needed.
- Maintaining knowledge of contractual obligations and regulations of key strategic partners and providing guidance to global and in-country staff on associated compliance issues.
- Providing regular guidance, strategic advice and oversight to in-country programme development and MEAL staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following skills, attributes, and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Business Administration, International Relations, Nonprofit Management, etc.). A master's degree is preferred.
- Excellent writing skills, including the ability to craft compelling proposals is a prerequisite for this position.
- Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to prioritise, plan, coordinate, and organise data as well as managing budgets.
- Extensive knowledge of US, UN, and European institutional donors and their compliance requirements, with proven experience of developing successful funding proposals and overseeing large complex grants.
- Excellent understanding of the principles of budgeting, financial, and contract management.
- Proven experience in project development and project cycle management, preferably in an NGO or international development sector.
- Knowledge of the NGO sector, fundraising principles, and donor due diligence processes.
- Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes and tools and the ability to craft theories of change and log-frames as well as sound project intervention logic.
- Familiarity with unarmed civilian protection methodology is a plus.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a small, flexible team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and institutions.
- Passion for the mission and values of the organisation.
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
