The Programs & Innovation (P&I) has prioritized actions and behaviors which align with this effort.

PATH seeks to accelerate our work across health areas and product types to reach scale by integrating our efforts to strengthen markets to improve access to health products with our technical capabilities in product design, development, and regulatory affairs. Therefore, by the end of 2022, the Market Dynamics and Medical Devices and Health Technologies programs will merge into a single program in the Programs & Innovation division. To lead this new program, with the working title of Product and Market Advancement, PATH seeks a dynamic individual who will support greater coordination and impact by integrating expertise in health technology and market access.

The Program director will have three primary objectives:

• Oversee the program and ensure high quality delivery to improve health access and equity
• Lead, build, and manage an effective, integrated and collaborative global team
• Drive collaboration with internal and external partners

1. Oversee program and ensure high quality delivery to improve health access and equity

• Lead the development and execution of vision and strategy for this newly integrated program including leveraging existing program strategies and projects, identifying new areas of focus that drive positive global health impact, driving fundraising and ensuring integration of work across the organization
• Drive program’s business development strategy to create a diversified and sustainable portfolio
• Create and grow relationships with funders and deepen partnerships
• Provide high level technical oversight for project implementation and evaluation, ensuring accountability for the highest standards in research ethics, medical science, market analytics, human centered design, product development, and market shaping
• Review and provide constructive feedback to program proposals and deliverables and ensure monitoring and measurement of program results

2. Lead, build, and manage an effective, integrated global team

• Lead the program, consisting of 130+ talented global staff, including supervising and mentoring a senior leadership team to connect to the program’s vision and purpose, implement the strategy and advance a unified, inclusive, and respectful global team culture
• Build, manage, support and engage talent, especially at country level and aligned with PATH’s deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)
• Provide coaching and mentorship to senior leadership team to proactively problem solve technical and operational issues, support autonomy, creativity, and innovation in a diverse and multi-cultural environment
• Develop and implement change management strategies to ensure successful collaborations across the new team
• Provide leadership consistent with PATH’s mission, strategy, values, and policies
• Model cultural and organizational agility internally and externally, as well as clear, open, and collaborative communication approaches in a dynamic environment

3. Drive collaboration with internal and external partners

• Serve as a member of PATH’s global leadership team and the Programs and Innovation division leadership team to inform and implement organization and division strategies
• Partner with members of the public and private sector at the global, regional, national, and local levels; respect diverse expertise, country and community knowledge, and local decision-making
• Represent PATH externally, serving as a spokesperson and experienced representative for global advocacy and policy efforts, prominent events, and as a liaison to donors, private sector and public health partners, and other stakeholders, acknowledging and connecting to the expertise within the program and across PATH
• Foster collaboration and co-creation of innovative ideas within the program, across the Programs and Innovation division, and with other PATH divisions to identify new opportunities, deliver projects, and share learnings

Required skills and experience:

• Advanced degree in business, public health, medicine and/or related field, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible leadership roles in product development of health technologies and developing markets for products in low resource settings to increase health equity
• Demonstrated high level of emotional intelligence and excellent people management skills with a commitment to building a shared vision of the future, setting standards, and managing senior leaders and large teams in diverse and multi-cultural environments
• Deep experience in creating and managing global-level relationships with donors, multilateral organizations, the private sector, and philanthropy
• Ability to clearly articulate motivation and demonstrated commitment to PATH’s mission of health equity in low resource settings
• Enthusiasm for and demonstrated proficiency and success in business development, from building a pipeline of prospects through to managing partnerships; successful business development with private sector and public sector global health funders is highly desirable; proven track record in meeting business and implementation targets
• Experience in building relationships at the country level with governments, multilaterals, private sector, and philanthropic organizations is highly desirable
• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of servant leadership
• Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate crucial conversations within teams and with partners
• Ability to apply excellent analytical skills, judgment, experience, and business acumen to make decisions and ensure delivery of quality, high impact projects that meet donor expectations
• Demonstrated ability to build shared vision, provide strategic leadership, and manage organizational change in collaboration with others
• Fluency in English required; working knowledge of other languages spoken where PATH has offices is an advantage
• Available to travel nationally and internationally estimated at 30 percent
• Must have legal authorization to work in a PATH country office location

Remote Work:

PATH continues to evolve to support our employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, most of PATH’s US based positions are temporarily 100% remote, within commuting distance to our PATH offices. When PATH transitions more broadly to in-person work, we will operate with a hybrid workplace model. Hybrid employees must reside within commuting distance to one of our PATH offices. PATH’s US offices are located in Seattle, WA and Washington, D.C.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement:

PATH has instituted a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all employees, interns, consultants, and temporary staff based in the United States. Individuals selected for job opportunities in the United States must be fully vaccinated, and show proof of vaccination status, upon hire. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as Pfizer or Moderna, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson. Individuals with medical issues or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent them from getting the vaccine may request an exemption from the vaccine requirement.
