The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is a membership organisation that unites and supports the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, promote greater equity, and ensure that cancer control continues to be a priority in the world health and development agenda. Founded in 1933 and based in Geneva, UICC’s growing membership of over 1150 organisations across 170 countries and territories features the world’s major cancer societies, cancer centres, research institutes, and patient groups. Fostering inclusive partnerships represents the foundation of how UICC operates and delivers impact. This is why UICC works hand in hand with a variety of stakeholders to drive changes and make progress in the fight against cancer.

Summary of the Position:

The Social Media and Content Specialist designs and implements the social media strategy of the organisation and develops digital content (text and audio-visual). He/she works in collaboration with other UICC teams (Advocacy, Events, Capacity Building, Membership, Partnership) to support their initiatives via social media.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Implement UICC’s social media strategy.
  • Manage UICC’s social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube and others).
  • Ensure a strong and daily active presence, creating original text and audio-visual content, managing posts and the community.
  • Create social media content for UICC’s global World Cancer Day campaign.
  • Ensure that the messaging is aligned with the strategic communication framework and UICC’s strategic business objectives.
  • Develop and coordinate the social media content calendar and liaise with member and partner organisations if needed.
  • Monitor social media activities and generate regular reports on performance and outreach, measure against set objectives.
  • Stay up-to date with the latest digital technologies and social media trends and adapt the social media strategy if needed.
  • Suggest and implement new features like polls, competitions etc.
  • Assist with the preparations of website news and official UICC documents in English, proofing and editing as required.

Education and Experience: 

  • Degree in communications, marketing or in another relevant area
  • 3 years’ work experience in a related field
  • Strong understanding of and experience with various social media technologies and platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tiktok etc.)
  • Experience with social media management tools (Hootsuite, Agora Pulse etc.)
  • Experience in social media advertising

Skills and Competencies:

  • English mother tongue
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and InDesign, Canva
  • Proven track record in video editing
  • Ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video)
  • Understanding of international public health issues and cancer control
  • Understanding of UICC’s global membership network
