General scope and purpose of role
The Communications and Capacity Building Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the ECLT Foundation's mission to eliminate child labour in agricultural communities. This position ensures the efficient and successful delivery of impactful initiatives that foster collaborative action against child labour in agriculture at all levels.
To achieve these objectives, the Communications and Capacity Building Officer works closely with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including Board members, implementing partners, consultants, trade unions, regulators, farmers’ associations, private sector and government representatives, as well as international organizations and non-profit institutions to enhance institutional knowledge, strengthen project implementation, and effectively communicate Foundation’s impact.
As a key team member, they also actively participate in technical discussions and thematic meetings relevant to their portfolio. This role reports to and operates under the guidance and direct supervision of the Advocacy and Communications Manager.
Responsibilities
Capacity Building & E-learning (30%)
- Contribute to the Foundation’s knowledge and learning generation by supporting the development and distribution of compelling and user-friendly guides, toolkits and models to support technical assistance and implementation of best practices and effective solutions to prevent, monitor and address child labour.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions and mentorship programs to strengthen institutional expertise.
- Manage the e-learning platform and curriculum:
- Assess training and development needs (through surveys, interviews, focus groups and other communications).
- Develop training content, manuals, guides, and course materials (including handbooks, tutorial, reference works).
- Manage Learning Management System (create, enrol users, be their contact point and run reports.
Stakeholder Engagement (30%)
- Contribute to the Foundation’s global and regional advocacy efforts:
- Support the organization and moderation of high-levels events, consultations, and policy discussions – online and in-person. This includes webinars, training sessions, knowledge sharing and capacity building sessions for identified audiences.
- Organise and attend stakeholder meetings, discussion groups and lessons sharing meetings.
- Cultivate relationships with media, stakeholders, and partners to amplify Foundation’s work.
Communications (20%)
- Support ECLT Communications strategy development and implementation:
- Help raise awareness around child labour through diverse communications activities and across multiple messaging platforms, including web, social media, print, press releases and newsletters.
- Support the production of high-quality materials to demonstrate the Foundation’s work and impact, including ECLT e-Learning resources, compelling reports, success stories, and case studies to showcase ECLT’s impact.
Impact Monitoring and Evaluation (10%)
- Monitor and evaluate communications effort’s effectiveness through records analysis, assessments, surveys and feedback.
- Monitor and evaluate the e-learning programme and other engagement activities impact through records analysis, assessments, surveys and feedback.
General (10%)
- Support ECLT engagement and collaboration with Board Members and their companies.
- Contribute to organisational and cross departmental work planning.
- Support the organisation of field events, such as partners’ workshops, conferences or any relevant world event.
- Prepare necessary presentation materials for meetings.
- Perform administrative tasks and other reasonable responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
A university degree in relevant subject, e.g., communications, international development, human rights, social sciences.
Required Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in communications, advocacy and/or capacity building, ideally in the non-profit sector.
- Demonstrated experience in developing communications and outreach strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in writing, developing, and editing communication products across web and print platforms.
- Experience using website content management systems and email delivery systems.
Required Knowledge and Competencies
- Proven ability to gather information and translate it into persuasive content adapted to the targeted audience and channel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. The ability to work in other languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese) is an advantage.
- Excellent computer skills, especially the MO suite, social media tools.
- Knowledge of LMS technologies and standards.

- Excellent interpersonal skills with highly developed cultural and political sensitivity.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and foster a collaborative work environment.
- Ability to apply a consistent approach to communications and advocacy, while maintaining professional and ethical standards.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to work independently, make sound judgments, manage priorities, and meet deadlines and targets.
Desired knowledge /experience
- Familiar with the following fields: human rights, children rights, decent work or business responsibility and sustainability.
- Experience with UN mechanisms, platforms and institutions.
- Work experience in a small organisation with an international reach.
- Proven ability to coach and train others on communications guidelines and best practices.
- Knowledge and use of design tools, e.g., Adobe Suite
Particular Work Requirements
- Valid Swiss work permit.
- Occasional in-country and international travels.
