Background:

The Principles for Peace (P4P) is a global participatory initiative that was set up to develop
new principles, standards and norms to fundamentally reshape peace processes and chart a
path to lasting peace. It brings together a broad coalition of actors across political, diplomatic, academic, defence and security, civil society and multilateral organisations.
The global, inclusive process of developing the Principles was led by the International
Commission on Inclusive Peace and the P4P Secretariat. The approach anchored the initiative in both realpolitik and real society. It leveraged cutting edge research, including 700 case studies distilled and 150 consultations in more than 60 countries.

A Peacemaking Covenant is the flagship product of this process. It presents a guiding
framework for action outlining the Eight Principles for Peace and the shifts in approach to
peacemaking needed to deliver lasting, inclusive peace. The Principles for Peace Foundation is a catalyst, custodian, and curator of these principles, the alliances built around them, and the broader peace and security ecosystem. It promotes and oversees the uptake and implementation of the principles and act as a global peace monitor to enhance the quality and effectiveness of peace making policy and action. The Principles for Peace Foundation is a synergist of partnerships, it engages a diversity of actors – mediators, security forces, governments, civil society, and businesses – to co-develop country, constituency, and thematic specific roadmaps to translate these principles into practical action to enhance the quality and durability of peace processes.

Function:

The Senior Partnerships and Advocacy Officer is a full-time position based in Geneva, with
possible travel, reporting to the Executive Director of the Principles for Peace Foundation.
The role involves leading partnership building, community engagement, and advocacy efforts to promote recognition and awareness of the Principles for Peace, associated policy shifts, measurements and metrics. The incumbent will develop and deliver on the organization's political and advocacy strategy and build and maintain political dialogues, partnerships and alliances to collaboratively influence policy, practice, and financing.
Responsibilities include nurturing existing partnerships, exploring new ones, coordinating
communications and advocacy, and ensuring alignment with the Principles for Peace strategic vision and goals.

Description of key functions:

• Provide strategic guidance on partnerships, community engagement and advocacy
  efforts to achieve P4P's goals and objectives.
• Lead the development and implementation of the partnerships and advocacy strategy,
  including building and maintaining high-level political dialogues and institutional
  partnerships.
• Nurture existing partnerships and build new ones to increase material, political and
  financial support for P4P's initiatives and programs.
• Coordinate the community of practice and communications function, ensuring alignment with P4P's strategic vision and goals.
• Organizes public relations events, serves as the media focal point, and develops key
  relationships with media stakeholders to enhance P4P's messaging.
• Lead the implementation of the Strategic Partnerships and Communications strategy,
  conceptualizing and launching new strategic initiatives.
• Support the Executive Director in building an institutional level Strategic Positioning
  strategy and liaise with key donors and supporters of the initiative.

Qualifications:

The qualifications required for the role of Senior Partnerships, Policy and Advocacy
Officer are an advanced university degree in political science, international relations,
development studies, peace studies, sociology, communications or a related field.

The candidate must have progressive experience in a partnership, policy, external
relations, or fundraising function within cross-cultural, international organizations. They
should have experience in developing and leading the implementation of cross-functional
strategies and building, maintaining and expanding partnerships.

The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be
able to influence key stakeholders, have a network within the peace and security space,
and have a good understanding of peacebuilding, state-building and development
issues. They should be able to deal with sensitive information and have excellent written
and spoken English, with knowledge of French being a strong advantage.

The Principles for Peace competencies required for this role include collaboration and
team work, communication, drive for results, adaptability and continuous learning, and
respect for diversity.
